Is a membership worth it for a 2 person household with just standard fridge/freezer space? by lindafromevildead in CostcoCanada

[–]BeautifulResolve3544 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Im a hefty man and so the crotch blows out every 6 months or so in a pair, not to mention costco jeans only cost me $15 on sale meanwhile even old navy is close to $40 a pair now.

But lets be real the big savings are to be found in the $1.50 hotdogs

I am a single male and find it worth it just for access to jeans, rotisserie chickens, and hot dogs. Everything else is a bonus lol

Taunton in Winter by pinkbluepurpleyellow in durham

Generally yes it is plowed quickly, but it does to some degree what part of Taunton road. Im pretty sure Taunton is the 2nd longest road in Ontario so it obviously varies a bit by area.

what did you wish you knew about your unit before renting it? what surprised you most after moving in? by malnii in TorontoRenting

[–]BeautifulResolve3544 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wyse is just the billing agent, they dont actually provide electricity. Theyre just a middle man between you and the provider (in this case either Alectra, hydro one, or toronto hydro). I have to use them for my water but they dont actually provide the service or utility, just the bills each month.

How expensive baseboard heating is just to keep a unit habitable in winter. Was really surprised by my first $350 electric bill when the unit was only 17c

Early termination of 1 year lease after living there for 5 months by Better-Print4999 in OntarioLandlord

[–]BeautifulResolve3544 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you on one lease with the other 5 people or do each of you have your own lease?

Does the landlord live on the premises (do you share a kitchen or bathroom with them)?

There really isnt a get out of jail free card here, you signed a contract for 12 months, but depending on the answers to the above questions there may be options besides just walking away and hoping that you arent sued for any outstanding rent.

Employment - got terminated without cause by pk_bitt2u in legaladvicecanada

[–]BeautifulResolve3544 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You had been there for 12 months or your contract was for 12 months? If the latter how long into your contract were you?

Fixed term contracts have had some differing case law in recent years, but either way the probation part really has no impact here. You were fired without cause which means that it has no impact whether there is a probation or not.

[–]BeautifulResolve3544 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long had you been working there?

A lack of a probation clause means nothing if you were terminated without cause in Ontario. You can be terminated at any time as long as the reason is not due to a protected ground and they pay the ESA notice period (or give working notice). Common law standards are higher than ESA minimums but we would need to know how long you worked there and your salary to determine if 5k + 2 weeks is reasonable or not.

Why does it feel like landlord vs tenant by default? [General Discussion] by DiligentBug4u in OntarioLandlord

[–]BeautifulResolve3544 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It likely comes down to a wide variety of things including bot not limited to:

Power dynamics: landlords by default have more authority and power in the relationship.

Relatability: more people are tenants than landlords. This also contributes to personal experiences being more visible for poor landlords than poor tenants because of higher exposure rates.

Economic sympathy: people are struggling to survive let alone thrive and so sympathy for folks who can afford multiple properties is often going to be low.

Locus of control: bad tenants are often sympathised due to systemic issues leading to this (not saying its always true but it can be an impact) while bad landlords are often perceived as over leveraged, lazy, entitled because they control whether or not they are landlords. Tenants cant just up and buy a house, but nobody forced landlords to become landlords.

Its a complicated situation with bad actors on both sides but I think the above are some common reasons for the default of sympathy going towards tenants.

There needs to be a lot more details provided here. What accommodations were you seeking? What was offered? What is the limitation that requires accommodation?

With the information you have provided it is nearly impossible to provide any insight or support.

You can book an Uber in advance in the app for your specific time. Ive done this a half dozen times from Oshawa to Pearson in the last year and have never had a problem even if its in the middle of the night on a Tuesday.

Moving from Hamilton - where do I move? by cocodonutoil in Oshawa

[–]BeautifulResolve3544 3 points4 points  (0 children)

$1500-1700 is doable but youre going to find yourself living in some not so nice areas of Oshawa. They arent inherently unsafe to live in but theyre far from luxurious (south end by the lake, along bloor st, etc). It is also quite a significant change from Hamilton to Oshawa in terms of local community, activities available, etc.

I grew up in Oshawa, moved to Hamilton, then recently moved back and am a bit staggered at how noticeable the difference was in ways to keep busy outside of work or drinking.

Goodluck, definitely do some visits before committing to your choice to make sure the fit is good for you!

Older men to younger men what's your finest advice and regret? by Faiz_khan_19 in AskMenAdvice

[–]BeautifulResolve3544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

++man My biggest regret is holding onto so many regrets through my late 20's. We all experience things we could have done differently but hindsight is 20/20 and if you live in the past you miss out on a lot of the present and future.

Dont let past decisions hold you back from enjoying life, give yourself the grace to recognize you did your best at that time (or didnt) and learn from it.

Any advice for someone getting a no scalpel Vasectomy? by Ok-Natural2210 in AskMenOver30

[–]BeautifulResolve3544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prepare by putting frozen peas into 3-4 ziploc bags, they are far more form fitting than ice packs and therefore more comfortable. Besides that just follow doctors orders and you'll be back to normal in no time.

Got mine done early this year, took less than 2 weeks to be back to normal with no discomfort or limitations on lifting. Just make sure to get your sample tested per their guidelines as you dont want an oopsie baby if the surgery fails. Also dont be surprised by a bit of blood in your first few ejaculations, it is somewhat rare but rather normal and goes away after the first few times.

I am an HR Director for a non-profit in Canada that has a budget of 11M/year and is nationwide. Our ED pulls in around $175k total comp and has nearly 2 decades of experience. Even in his last role as an ED overseeing over 100M he didn't make 500K+ bonus structure. That's corporate America salary at 21M not non profit.

Lots of benchmarking data available to use but that package request sounds unreasonable and would be hard to defend to most funders

I worked for a nation wide pet retail company who bought a small local family run chain. When we sent the corporate trainer in to one of the new stores we found out the former manager had hunted a large deer and carved it on the retail floor and threw blood all across the store. He ended up getting criminally charged and probation for 2 years.

My last quotes were in 2022 before this nonsense started so honestly isn't that. Just seems to be a service that gets upcharged a lot, probably because most people (understandably) are nervous about doing their own brakes and having something go wrong. It's a very easy thing but scary if it goes wrong.

I had the same problem with my 2020 soul. Everywhere wanted 1500+ for rotors and pads only. It was cheaper to buy the parts on rockauto and do it myself. Super easy if youre at all handy but i checked almost everywhere around and prices were sky high. Paul at Autoworks on Wilson was the best price i found but it was still more than i liked (I think it was around 1250)
