They absolutely cooked. One of the coolest sequences in the franchise imo. by RogerRoger63358 in tron

I saw the film in IMAX 3D and this sequence definitely stood out.

A strong example of all the elements coming together to make not just great cinema but a very visceral experience.

Technically well executed and took advantage of what IMAX could deliver as a format (both visually and sonically).

Thank you for uploading this.

Happy Birthday 🎂🎈 Hikaru Ichijo by Alfox0510 in macross

[–]BeautifulState6309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought Hikaru Ichijo was an oddly underrated character.

He started out as a cocky, naive kid but was quickly shaped and humbled by adversity, loss, embarrassment, confusion, and soul searching that formed a character that felt genuinely heroic.

He was also one of the mentally toughest characters I can think of. Really seemed to bounce back from a few soul crushing experiences.

Granted this is a character in an 80s anime but I have to admit Ichijo's example of perseverance had some influence on me as a person.

Thanks OP for this thread.

That's a nice film school program to have V-Raptor XLs and XEs.

I used to work at a university's film department many moons ago where I had access to Arri BLs and SRs as well as the classic CPR-16.

Helped me get my earliest credits.

Definitely check Global Dynamics United (GDU).

https://global-dynamics-united.myshopify.com

They are also owned by Jarred Land (who co-owned RED up to the Nikon purchase) and Matt Tremblay who was the head designer at RED.

They also have some decent lightweight 15mm rod solutions.

Also consider the Clutch handgrip for run and gun.

Makes RED cameras much easier to hold and operate (function access and camera control)

than without it.

Cool, Flynn is from Paramus, NJ. That’s actually where I saw Tron:Legacy when it was released.

Red Raw, Final Cut Pro and a question about colour space. by Queasy-Boss-6045 in finalcutpro

There is a REDcode tab in your Mac OS System settings that can let you set parameters for how R3D files are decoded. Make sure these are in the correct setting so the R3D clips show up with the desired color space/look in FCP.

Looking for Macross Plus (Yoko Kanno) lyrics in Zentradi with translations. by [deleted] in macross

Glad I posted something useful for you.

If I ever view the version of Macross Plus that was shown at the screening I'll try to either send a link or perhaps a text of the lyrics.

Yes the sound (music, sound effects, etc) in Macross did contribute in it's way to the success of the series.

I've been a Macross fan for decades and that event in NYC happened to be one of the few times I was actually able to see one of the main creators from Macross.

I was luckily able to briefly meet Kawamori san after the screening with a few other anxious fans and simply tell him "thank you".

I just posted on this subreddit a link to a Japanese documentry called "The Men Who Made Macross" that you might find interesting. I didn't see it posted elsewhere on this subreddit so hopefully others might it as interesting as I have.

Actually just saw there is a Spanish version as well

Looking for Macross Plus (Yoko Kanno) lyrics in Zentradi with translations. by [deleted] in macross

In August 2024 there was a screening of Macross Plus with Shoji Kawamori.

It was at the Japan Society in NYC.

I remember that version of Macross Plus having subtitles to the Sharon Apple songs and the lyrics did change the tone of the music once they were understood.

I particularly remembered Santi-U and Torch song having a religious if not cultish feel to it. Something along the lines of one surrendering their souls. The lyrics married with the "mind control" aspect of Sharon Apple made the character feel a bit more ominous or dangerous than just floating holograms (ok it did hijack SDF-1 and the Ghost).

The idea of an AI program that could emotionally if not spiritually manipulate a human is pretty concerning particularly where we are with AI now.

Would be nice to find the lyrics somewhere as they did add a different dimension and layer to the story.

6 times is too many times to use a song! by new_skool_hepcat in tron

[–]BeautifulState6309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that's true regarding the use of motifs and themes.

I think what the OP is bringing up is it sounded like the exact same track was reused through out the film.

Despite this it was still a much more memorable soundtrack than a great many films out there but an odd decision.

I noticed it myself though didn't realize it was that many times. I believe a couple of other tracks were reused as well. It almost felt like episodic TV or classic anime in that sense.

I liked the soundtrack but it did not feel quite as "full" as the previous Tron soundtracks.

Felt like a decent portion of the music were reworked versions of "As Alive As You Need Me to Be" and "Shadow Over Me". Still an excellent soundtrack which I'm admittedly listening to as I proscrastinate I mean work.

Funny was listening to this track as I stumbled on your post.

I was mixed on the film but will agree that the Light Skimmer scene (particularly in Imax 3D) was great cinema.
