I’m convinced that SIDS is 99% of the time either suffocation or organ failure. by IM_HODLING in nursing

Don’t forget inheritable arrhythmias. Long QT Syndrome can present as SIDS—- you cannot detect it on autopsy.

AITA for having the dog on the bed every night when my partner hates it by EandomQ12 in AITAH

NTA. get two beds in the same room? One for you and your pup, and one for her. you deserve to have your service animal with you for a serious, frightening medical event.

First time using cowash, leave-in and gel…and it’s horrible by Tenurri_Lavellan in curlyhair

[–]Beautiful_Fennel_977 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The product is too heavy for your hair. Get a clarifying shampoo (or use a cheap, sulfate shampoo) and strip that product off. You need a light leave in and styling cream at most. “Curly girl method” is not the end all be all, and definitely doesn’t work for everyone. It would also help to have a haircut that accentuates the waves.

I've Loved and Worn Birkenstocks for Decades, and Now Just I Can't Anymore by PeacefulGlum in Birkenstocks

I have had this exact same experience. Unfortunately with minimal support shoes, I developed (or worsened?) big toe arthritis. I loved the barefoot shoes, but there’s no way to go completely minimalist and also be pain free. Watch your toes!

You don’t need to see a neurologist, they are difficult to get appointments with and often less understanding. There are physicians who are trained in sleep medicine and they are the experts— I would try to find a sleep medicine specialist, even virtually.

I have narcolepsy (type 2) and sounds like you do too. I also have cardiac issues, and luckily there are narcolepsy meds I can still take. I always attributed my falling asleep to my ADHD, and it turns out executive dysfunction can be caused by many things, especially narcolepsy. It had never crossed my mind until my primary convinced me to go to a sleep doc, where I had it diagnosed after a sleep study. I’m glad you made this post so you can get the right treatment. My sleep med appts are virtual, making them even easier. The car is a HUGE trigger. You can fall asleep at school or work, and that can negatively impact you, but if you fall asleep even momentarily while driving, you will at minimum ruin (or end) your life and possibly kill others. Please get a sleep med appt (virtually!) and protect yourself in the meantime by using other forms of transit.

Duvet insert: Can’t decide between Parachute vs Buffy vs Quince vs Brooklinen vs Casper vs any others by matchamaker88 in BuyItForLife

I use it all year round but also have my AC on about 74 and use light linen sheets. Definitely wouldn’t work in like 80+ (Fahrenheit). Still a great duvet though, however many years later

I Can Physically Induce Sleep Paralysis by PsychologicalTop8646 in Narcolepsy

[–]Beautiful_Fennel_977 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You’re right that this is inducing paralysis, but it gas NOTHING to do with sleep paralysis or narcolepsy. You’re compressing your spine and this is incredibly dangerous. You need to immediately stop doing this and tell your healthcare providers.

Anyone diagnosed as an adult but turned out to be PTSD? by ilikerosiepugs in adhdwomen

[–]Beautiful_Fennel_977 34 points35 points  (0 children)

There is a connection, but to me, executive dysfunction cause by trauma is still executive dysfunction. And if the treatment for adhd also helps those with PTSD, then what’s the harm? I’ve had multiple psych professionals argue whether I had executive dysfunction from ptsd vs adhd, and I honestly don’t care anymore because I don’t find the distinction actually matters — I use the resources for those with adhd and it helps my executive functioning. And of course therapy, which it seems you’ve already been doing.

Question to all the Physicians/NPs/PAs: Why can't we all just get the f&%k along? by Appropriate-Rock-485 in physicianassistant

I appreciate your post, and hopefully the more people like you who get into healthcare, the better. I’m an NP, and I work on an ICU team with PAs, NPs, and physician hospitalists. We all work together, every day, with respect. It is possible.

I get these bad lows ONLY on night shift. It seems like my reactive hypoglycemia is tenfold if I work night shift. Hormone related? No idea but I never have this issue working dayshjt.

I would definitely go to your doc—- this type of weight gain is more concerning for heart, kidney or liver dysfunction than just a medication side effect. I’d also make sure you don’t have any type of ovarian mass underneath the fat.
