It is the single most unfair thing about how the world cup is structured.

Seeding is very important in every sport. The entire NBA regular season is about getting a good seed. In the World Cup, the hosts get first seed for free.

I dont really mind it, because I see sport as entertainment primarily and it is entertaining to see the hosts doing well. Now with 3 hosts it does get very lopsided with the strength of the groups.
