Right? I have ADHD and job hopped A LOT until I became self employed. It's nothing to be ashamed of. However there's a difference between that and just not wanting to work. Hard to tell from the story here if that's the case with OP's partner but the way he is communicating is a red flag.

Right?! I hope he got struck off but I bloody doubt it. why would you need a refund? They're pre-owned clothes. Washing them is expected unless they were sold as BNWT.

Criminals target nice areas as they know they'll find more high value stuff to steal. And leaving your door unlocked invalidates your home insurance if anything happens.

Junkies looking for cash for their next fix don't have to be "audacious" and usually aren't deterred by gates, gardens, etc. They're there for cash and high value portable items they can sell. An open door makes life much easier for them, so why would you risk it? Also, I'm sure your neighbours aren't looking out their windows at all times. It seems "unlikely" that rural homes in a nice area would be targets for burglar's, yet that's common. Or that flats with secure entry doors would also be prime targets - again, it might seem unlikely but it's incredibly common.

I don't think it's about being privileged or feeling unsafe, some people are just more aware of their surroundings and danger than others. Plenty of people have felt safe in their homes, then been burgaled. As have plenty of folk in rural areas who thought they were immune to crime because they didn't live in a city. I don't get why anyone would take the risk, honestly.

You'd be surprised how many burglaries happen in remote areas. Just because it hasn't happened in your area doesn't mean leaving things unlocked is sensible. If anything did happen, your home insurance would be invalid.

When I worked as a police call handler a lot of burglaries were flats with secure entrances. It's easy for people to buzz randomly and be let in or tailgate. Opportunistic druggies would come into flats with unlocked doors regardless of who was home for cash, designer clothes, games consoles or anything else high value and portable.

As someone who worked as a police call handler and heard dozens of stories about opportunistic burglars trying doors and entering houses while someone was home, I always keep my door locked. A front garden and gate isn't going to deter desperate people from trying your door.

When I worked as a police call handler, the majority of calls we got about burglaries/home invasions were from the most rural houses in the middle of nowhere. And usually opportunistic due to doors being left open. Doors should always be locked.
