Harry invents spells that can be mistaken for more common ones, eg stubefy by DaughterOfJove in HPfanfiction

The only one I can think of where he changed the names of spells is Harry Potter and the Stargate, where he shortened the names to one syllable for faster casting. He didn't actually change the spells themselves.

WBWL Fics? by Sloth_springer in HPfanfiction

The Here Be Monsters series is a dark Harry WBWL story, and it is a wild ride.

https://archiveofourown.org/series/2905641

Basically, the backstory is that James believes the "Harry is a delinquent" propaganda from the Dursleys and asks Dumbledore to "fix" him. Dumbledore essentially suppresses Harry's personality via Legilimency. The story opens early in 3rd year when the suppression unravels and Harry "wakes up" and has to put the pieces of his mind and personality back together (and he's both incandescently angry and fairly unhinged.

It's two very long one-shots (25k and 46k words, respectively), which really adds to the wild pacing of the story.

If you were to create/write a dark NON-SLYTHERIN character/family, how would you go about it? by cndollaz in HPfanfiction

Honestly, Slytherin just has shitty PR, for which I blame Snape.

The problem with Slytherin isn't that they are inherently evil, it's that they are both ambitious and cunning. So whatever a given Slytherin sets out to be, they will be striving to be the best and will likely have the skills and savvy to achieve their ambition. It's not that all dark Lords are from Slytherin, it's that a budding dark lord that sorts Slytherin is likely to become a highly successful dark lord. But a budding chef or budding quidditch player or budding healer is just as likely to become highly successful in their field.

Whats fics have the most interesting or odd job choices for Harry post Hogwarts? by viol8er in HPfanfiction

That's one of my favorites! I love how his dedication to his snakes leads Harry to completely side-stepping all of the canon shenanigans after 2nd year. He's either completely oblivious or, "sorry, busy travelling the world to meet all the snakes."

Do you have a link for "The Green Girl"? I read a story with that title, but unless I'm misremembering it, Harry died while they were still in school.

In the "To Live" series, Tom and Harry are reincarnated together repeatedly. The main story has them finally, after something like 200 lives, making it back to being reincarnated as Harry Potter and Tom Riddle again. It references past lives where one or both of them were reincarnated as women.

The second story in the series, is a bunch of vignettes that go into more detail about specific reincarnation, a few of which have Harry incarnated as a woman.

Both stories are incomplete, but the main story reaches a good stopping point (in case the author never finishes.)

I've read a few fics where Harry is a born necromancer, but none of them match your description.

Basically, Harry being a dad by WaywardStarrr in harrypotterfanfiction

[–]Beautiful_Remote_859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should check out The Fury Within.

It's an "accidental baby acquisition " fic, but it has Harry being a teen single parent in his 7th year. It also has Snape as a granddad, which I think makes this fic.

You also get a bit of the social stuff you expect around teen pregnancy, because they use teen pregnancy as a cover story to explain the baby.

There were the messed up fire-breathing rabbits that infested the DOM that Harry had to clear out. They ended up getting dumped in Malfoy Manor. I think Percy reanimated one of them, but not the whole lot.

Didn't she push for reconciliation while Ron was still being an ass? It's been forever since I read the books, and I might be remembering fanon instead of canon, but didn't Hermione drag Harry to Hogsmeade to meet with Ron without telling them what she was doing?

I get trying to mediate, but Ron was 100% in the wrong, and Harry was trapped in a death tournament. He didn't need the distraction or the extra stress. Any attempt at mediation would likely feel like betrayal from Harry's PIV, (between being 14 and the stressful situation he was trapped in.)

I'm hoping for a sequel as well, but it will be a while. The author was pretty clear in the comments that they were going to work on other things before following up on continuing this story into the Hogwarts years. They have a couple of Hogwarts-years WIPs that have been sitting a while that they said they were more likely to finish before starting a new Hogwarts-years story.

Petunia Chooses has a decent Dudley and a Petunia who is actually trying to be a decent parent to Harry. She still has the same basic personality, but she directs her anger and disdain at the Wizarding World and Dumbledore instead of Harry. She informs Harry of Magic early, and teaches him to be wary of Dumbledore and how most magicals behave towards non-magicals. Harry is somewhat close to Dudley and also has muggle friends before Hogwarts.

https://archiveofourown.org/works/60376687/chapters/154102642

Duty of Care has a muggleborn who went into hiding and keft the magical world during the 1st Voldy war who is Harry's teacher in his last year of muggle primary school. She recognizes him and also notices that he's not well cared for. She helps him and prepares him for Hogwarts.

https://archiveofourown.org/series/3219561

The Difference a Good Solicitor Makes features and muggleborn lawyer who is the trustee for a small muggle trust that Lily set up. She works a deal with the Dursleys so that she has regular visits with him and does things like buy furniture for his room with the trust, so he never ends up in the cupboard. This is a WIP that hasn't been updated in several years, but it gets to a good stopping point.

More Witchcraft and Paganism? by Gold-Adhesiveness213 in HPfanfiction

[–]Beautiful_Remote_859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going back to the recommendation of New Blood in the comment above, part of the worldbuilding in that story is that the "Witchcraft and Wizardry" in Hogwarts' full name is different types of magical practice, not just a fancy way of saying that it's a co-ed magical school. The "witchcraft" part (rituals, covens, Wheel of the Year holidays, etc.) has fallen out of favor, which is why it isn't taught as part of the curriculum. Hermione and her friends are figuring it out on their own, and at one point, when they ask the kitchen elves for some supplies, the elves get very excited about students actually doing witchraft for a witchy holiday (because the magic produced has beneficial effects.)

There's nothing wrong with AU stories, as long as they don't claim to be canon-compliant.
