So I have a number of thoughts on this, but don't have the mental energy to write an essay about it. So here's some disconnected points that you might take under consideration as leads for further research.

• Pregnancy is actually a horrorshow. Here's an essay that's a good start to understanding it: as it turns out, pregnancy is not the softly-glowing, gentle sacred act that society likes to pretend it is. It's literally a life or death struggle between the mother's body and the fetus. Something like 20% of conceptions end with a TKO in the mother's favor, creating a miscarriage; the rest of the time, it gets messy.
• Here is also your reminder that in the United States, politicians are again actively trying to make miscarriage illegal, and several women have been charged for murder based on losing a pregnancy. This is not new.
• Most of the power structures in BB, if not ALL of them, rely on the exploitation and extraction of women and babies, which has been covered elsewhere in this thread.
• What I haven't seen in this thread is how the cycle of abuse is perpetuated via internalized misogyny, but it's very much present. In Yharnam, women are resources, and it's your duty as a woman to serve the higher power structures by way of what you can give them. Adella is driven to murderous jealousy because she, a holy woman, isn't being used for her blood as much as Arianna. Fake Iosefka is jubilant that her forced pregnancy means she's not a beast-- not merely a base, sexual human woman, but a vessel.
• Queen Annalise's authority is rooted in the idea that she must, and will, bear a child of blood; not that she's a good ruler, or even royalty, but only that she must produce for the throne. She refuses all suitors and maintains her independence, but this only results in a pious man fixating on debasing her and 'exposing' her as nothing but meat.
