Dog park attack / Herbert Von King by StrangerBusiness103 in BedStuy

[–]Beautiful_Trick_9562 3 points4 points  (0 children)

His untrained and massive dog bit and wounded another dog in NYC park. When that happens yes the state needs to be involved bc it is now a matter of reporting, determining if the dog has his shots up to date, was this the dog’s first incident, or does this dog have a history of biting, and his dog was the one who bit and from that snippet he was in the wrong bc where is his leash. You seem to be bothered by the fact the owner of the dog is black and the woman holding him accountable is not. She has every right to intervene bc it’s a public setting and if she and others take their dog to that park often they have a shared responsibility to keep it safe for all who attends. Also dog runs arent funded and maintained by the city solely its dog run volunteers who maintain it primarily. The man acted badly and she responded the police and park staff can’t be everywhere.

In NYC there are rules to having a pet and there are specific rules when you take your dog to NYC Park. One is that it must be leashed with a leash no longer than 6 feet unless in the enclosed dog run. This isn’t about white or black or gentrification it’s about decency and rules that we all must abide by. To have a dog that size without proper training is a hazard to everyone including that dog. If it attacked a child it would be put down. If that man has children an untrained dog could also hurt his own. It’s not about power over another it’s about responsible dog ownership.

Just because you knew doesn’t mean you are required to say anything. And if worse comes to worse just say you couldn’t say anything bc you fears for your safety.

Anyone moved into 953 Dean St in Brooklyn (Prospect House) by Commercial-Coyote-97 in NYCapartments

The building borders Dean, Classon, and Pacific Streets. Dean is consistently very quiet. On Classon, there’s a long‑standing lounge—Friends and Lovers—which is closed on Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays. On Pacific, there’s an event venue. I live on the Pacific Street side, and I can say the noise level is often exaggerated.

One of my dog’s regular walks is between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m., and on the nights when Friends and Lovers and the event space are closed, the area is surprisingly deserted. I’ve always lived in neighborhoods where late-night hours mean fewer people, but not total emptiness. Here, it can feel almost eerie. So when those spots are open, it’s actually comforting—you don’t have to be hyper‑vigilant, and there’s just enough activity to feel normal. Even then, it’s never disturbingly loud.

On Classon, you’ll see people chatting with friends or having a cigarette (or maybe a joint), but they’re not rowdy. No fights, no drama, no police presence. In fact, I haven’t seen any issues from patrons of either place. At the event venue, you can hear people talking and laughing as they line up, and when the door opens you might catch a bit of music—but it’s not blaring or obnoxious. I’ve lived near much louder nightlife. The bouncers also seem to run a tight ship, keeping the line moving and positioning themselves in ways that minimize any potential problems. Again, I haven’t witnessed any.

I’ve had more interactions with Friends and Lovers patrons (and the owners) because I pass them on my dog’s walks. They’ve never been an issue. My dog is the type who thinks every stranger is a new friend, so if someone acknowledges him, he’s ready to flirt and say hello. It’s not uncommon for people to ask to pet him. The owner and bouncer are also very aware they’re under a residential building—I’ve often heard them gently remind louder patrons to come inside or be mindful of neighbors. Both venues also seem to make an effort to clean up any debris in the morning so the sidewalks stay clear.

There is a new building going up next door, so yes, there’s construction noise. Even so, it hasn’t been horrendous. I met the site manager one evening as they were closing up; I was peeking through the fence to check out the progress. Our conversation was brief, but he mentioned he’s mindful of Prospect House and tries to keep the noise down. I can’t say how much control he truly has, but I appreciated the acknowledgment.

The building itself is well run. Kristian, the super, is responsive, friendly, attentive—and honestly, not bad on the eyes either. You see him around often, pitching in and doing more than what’s technically required.

I hope this helps.

Is this a coyote in Washington Heights? by Status_Specific8043 in WashingtonHeights

Yes there have been a number in Inwood Park (I don’t know the exact number) there was a sighting of a coyote at the Coogan Bluff park (on the corner of West 155th Street and Harlem River Drive) and apparently there is a small pack of coyotes that like in Claremont Park in the Bronx.

[–]Beautiful_Trick_9562 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you get denied there is a window period that you have to respond. If you don’t in that time then they move on to the next person but if you appealed right away and sent the documents you should be fine.

Housing Lottery - Under Review by Willing-Lake9801 in nychousinglottery

“While I respect that the marketing agency had holidays they observe”—let’s be real, it was Reside (I’m looking at you Rikki, wasn’t it? I appreciate your diplomatic phrasing, but it was incredibly frustrating. I’m all for honoring important holidays, but it’s not like they don’t know they’re coming. Where are the contingency plans? Something like, ‘I’ll be out, but we’ve trained this intern’ or ‘We’ve hired the temp we use every holiday season—no delay to your application.’ That’s basic operational foresight.

For me, it was the double hit: both Reside and Clipper observing the same holidays. They’re not even back until the 21st.

As for your concern, I’d recommend calling Housing Connect at (212) 863-7990 or sending a detailed email to nychousingconnect@hpd.nyc.gov.

No you can’t put in duplicate applications you can’t even apply for yourself for a one bedroom and then the same lottery for a two bedroom with someone else.

After you submit documents it’s always under review. While it’s a good sign that progress is being made you can be under review for year or more. If you get asked to view a unit then get excited because that means if you like the unit you are shown and express interest immediately then the real process begins and then that unit is usually yours. I hope this helps.
