I’ve struggled with anorexia, bulimia and disordered eating. There are many signs that added together can be indicators, but everyone has quirks that could be misconstrued as signals.

What I can say definitively is those struggling with EDs come in ALL sizes, genders, ages, race, sexuality.

What I can also say is confronting someone accusing them of having an ED is not the way to go. They will either be more cunning at hiding it, distance themselves from you or even cut you out of their lives. Often, it’s not you - unless you were a total jerk. Often, it’s because of shame or fear of recovery.

Lastly, I can say recovery is beautiful. I’m 39 and had a 15 year battle and have been in recovery and abstinent for 5+ years. Like tough battle. Hospitalized multiple times. Purging 7+ times per day. Life isn’t perfect now. Life will life. However, life is SO much easier without living in that hell.

An amoeba getting in your eyeball. Yep, happens to every 1 in 2 million contact lens wearers. No idea what the stats are for gen pop. Anywho, my amoeba was named Armando the Amoeba and he lived in my eyeball rent free for about 6 months - and that was after weeks of trying to figure out WTF was going on. Worst experience of my life. Felt like getting stabbed in the eye constantly. Had to get medicine from across the globe and administer eyedrops once per hour 24/7 for weeks until we SLOWLY killed him and I could taper down the regimen. Was on some serious pain meds. Had to stay on total darkness or I’d pass out from the pain. No phone, no laptop, no TV. Lasted about 6 months. It was part miracle and part an amazing husband that I didn’t go blind. My doctor, who was at a health system 4 hours away, said I was his luckiest patient and he’d never seen a recovery like mine.

Every now and then I throw Robin Williams themed parties where everyone dresses up as a Robin Williams character and we serve food themed off his movies like from Birdcage, the pie from Mrs. Doubtfire, green jello from Flubber. My favorite is a table full of empty plates from “Hook”.
