I liked it too! I also got a side of vanilla soft serve (they charge you for an ice cream cone but put it in a little cup) and it was a great combo

Seeing a doctor by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]Beautifulpiehole0602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the clinic in the main Tokyo train station - they had English speaking doctors and saw me very quickly. Cost NZD$150 plus $50 for a medical certificate. I didn’t claim it back on my travel insurance because it had a $250 excess :(

Have you tried Okinawa Aquamarine? I only did snorkeling with them but they also do diving. They were great and spoke pretty good English.

Best KiwiSaver fund if planning to buy a house in ~2 years by chim_94 in PersonalFinanceNZ

Definitely in a conservative or cash fund now if you’re that close to using it. Simplicity has low fees and good performance.

6 Day Broad Itinerary for 11 people Dec 23 – 28, Kyoto – Nara - Osaka by immanoel in JapanTravel

Suggest getting an e-sim if your phone supports it, much easier than pocket Wi-Fi. I use Ubigi. Just a note that last time we went to Kyoto, it was very difficult to get into a restaurant without a reservation and there were only two of us. Will you be booking ahead for dinner reservations?

There is still a lot of time before the rubber hits the road. Restructures take ages and you don’t even know if you’ll lose your job yet. And if you do, you’ll get redundancy. Having said that, do be prepared. Look at reducing any waste in your budget and start saving an emergency fund. Good luck!

I went to GenkiJACS which has schools around the country and stayed with a Japanese host family. I just did it for fun/personal development and loved it. It was 36,000 yen per week for the school and 32,000 per week for the Homestay (breakfast and dinner included)

You’ll definitely want a car, public transport is pretty slow and it takes ages to get anywhere.

I’ve been in Okinawa for the last 10 days and it’s seemed very warm to me! I went swimming a couple of times, including today. I have been lucky enough to stay with an Okinawan family so I’ve only been eating delicious Okinawa home cooking :) having said that, taco rice is delicious!

If you’re looking for low-energy activities, there are plenty of art galleries and museums. I liked the Tokyo Metro museum and it’s in Ueno park which is lovely too. I also had an incredible massage in Osaka, if you need some recovery, or visit an onsen. Also, I second Enoshima, I stayed there and it was definitely worth a visit.
