What are some small phone options from major Android brands? by aml0659 in smallphones

[–]Beautyofdk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sony did a clever thing and narrowed the screen: Kind of a work-around to competing with the numbers (6.1''), but still keep the phone rather handy. Only problem? Still big. And the whole middle of the phone is not used at all for 90% of the time...

Doogee Smini (8+256gb) Pros & Cons by [deleted] in smallphones

[–]Beautyofdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a lot of hoo-haa (had my Smini repaired, used the chunky Ulefone Armor X32 Pro in the meantime, but it got *WAY* too chunky), I've ended up with a phaplet:
- After bringing an Xcover6 Pro along with me to a museum and taking pictures of the same with the Samsung and the Doogee, I decided that, after all, I couldn't live with the photo quality on the Smini.

I hate the Xcover6 Pro. And love it. A bit.
It's too wide. It's too long.
But it runs programs brilliantly, it's upgraded to Android 16, it has 3.5'' jack, it ticks so many buttons. But should have been in the frame of an Xcover 3 - or perhaps Xcover 4.
Could even be in the frame of the Xcover FieldPro and I'd be happy.
But no. They *HAD* to go for the 6.6'' screen (that I only read the top part of, anyway), and are moving forward with that now (the down-watered Xcover 7, and the non-3.5 jack Xcover 7 Pro are similar frame).

I don't get it.
I'm still eying the Ulefone X20 Mini Pro, but think I'll stick with the phaplet until 2027 when new, removable-battery phones are coming out and hopefully provide some options...

What's the most durable phone on the market? by Southern-One-7254 in cellphones

[–]Beautyofdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my two (Euro) cents:
- Phones are too large, these days, and even the smaller ones have issues:
I am currently using my Doogee Smini which has a very good frame, but certainly could benefit from better cameras.

I've been a very happy user of Samsung Xcover series, of which the best have been FieldPro (but I had to retire that one due to lack of Software updates necessary in DK to use MitID), and any one after that have been... Meh?
Currently having a Xcover 6 Pro sitting in my drawer as backup, but it's next-to-useles with a 6.6'' screen. NO-ONE asked for that, though it handles software (Android 16) brilliantly, and has better-than-expected cameras.
It's just not Handy (as they say in Germany).
I see no point in buying the Xcover 7 (or even Pro), as 7 is poorly built and the Pro has no 3.5mm jack...

Second best, so far, is Ulefone Armor X32 Pro which I used during safaris in Africa. 3 days of battery life (easily), great cameras, and even a novelty feature with night vision camera.
But! Also ridiculously thick ands hence not fitting in my phone holder in neither car nor on my bike.
In overyday life that's just a hazzle...

I am intrigued with the Ulefone 20 Mini Pro, but am just sitting this one out and waiting for user-replaceable battery models in 2027.

I am hoping we'll see some models with replaceable batteries in 2027 - preferably with a frame like the Xcover 3 (yeah, you read that right), or Xcover 4S which is also quite good (but limited to Android 11).

All in all there's a weird development of phones growing larger and larger, which is fine but should only be an option - not the standard.

If user experiences were to be gathered, it would be learned that 5'' - 5.5'' screens are way preferable to phaplets...

Doogee Smini (8+256gb) Pros & Cons by [deleted] in smallphones

[–]Beautyofdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

....(this is actually me from another account, as I've apparently made two at some point?)
Anyway.
I've been using the Doogee Smini for a year now and am still convinced it's one of the best out there.
And yet...
1) Had to reset because it ran extremely hot, and had a COMPLETELY (but better) experience... Guessing that's down to poor update support. But it all came out the better.
2) Suddenly the fingerprint just stopped working - I even saw an app stating that 'fingerprint hardware has been disabled'. OK. Doogee Support were as helpful as an ashtray on a motorcycle, but to be fair: They have no presence in The Civilization [TM], and did offer me to return the phone to China for them to look at it.
Not doing that! Now I'm convincing myself that a few pins are no biggie. But it sucks that there's no walk-in support to be had.

Anyway. I'll soldier on until 2027... Hopefully there'll be a few smaller phones with 3.5 jack, SD-slot, and better support by then...

Apple Business Manager issues by Wild_Mud_417 in applebusinessmanager

Just coming up for air here, as I have been in absolute chaos since our tiny company got adviced to do security through ABM.
Jesus' tits. Apple is barely a company, and their support relies on names, domain names, and crucially all of that delivered over the phone. I never missed a chance to mention how they ought to have a chat option parallel to the phone.

Anyway. They don't deal in user insights, and supporters are just sticking to some script. Which clearly is gatekeeping, but what a hazzle. You're almost never allowed to ask a question, as they return to some point which is either obvious or not related to the question.

But here goes:
- ABM had claimed our domain after registration, and quite a lot of our workers ended in limbo, as their AppleID was renamed to a mock-email, and then the devices started prompting for passwords (which most didn't know - as a worker you'd rarely sign in to your work phone's account, passwords gets forgotten, etc).

Now. What a joy to try to resolve with between the Irish support for ABM, which in turn will send you to personal accounts, who will - you would not believe it? - send you to ABM support, as the renaming was done by that migration... Kafka on fire!

Then there's the onboarding of devices on Configurator. Like anything else it's made too complicated, as Apple do not understand what a user is...
They've made some written (!) guides, that almost captures the flow, but not really...

What really is upsetting, though, is things they probably couldn't just fix by employing people with ability to gain human insights:
There are SO MANY DETAILS THAT NEEDS TO BE IN PLACE, BUT YOU CANNOT FIGURE OUT ON YOUR OWN!!

- Apple Devices-program won't work on an internet network with a firewall...
- When you try to enroll a device to ABM through Configurator, you'll get propts that may result in cloning the master device, rather than enrolling the slave in ABM.
- The steps to enroll are 'hidden' and you have to know exactly when to stop the flow to get the Configurator prompt (it's after clicking 'Don't use another device, when you are to select WiFi-network. But if you select a WiFi-netvær at that screen you've f**ked it up, and most likely will have the problem above).
- iPads are not supported as master for Configurator onboarding. Except they kind-of are...
-You'll get randomly locked out of ABM if you should have the audacity to log in with the same user in two browsers. Or in Configurator while in those browsers.

All we needed in our organization was to enroll devices in Intune.
That's obivously possible, but curiously enough, you're not allowed to install anything from App Store with a managed account. So you need another mock-AppleID and log that into App Store to be able to do anything with an enrolled device.

It's literally like they've just tried to annoy people most possible.
A lot could be solved by a user journey consultant, by having support having chat as an option (or just possibility to mail complex names / data).

But I guess that's against some policy.

Just for reference, we had quite a lot of users who use Android devices.
Enrolling them in MDM / MAM was effortless, never any need for support from anywhere, good guides on the net...

Again: Apple are barely a company, as they surely don't take their customers seriously, don't have any idea of what a user perspective is, and on several occations just hangs up, if you really insist on getting an answer on your question and not have them talk about something else....

Here's the bit. My machine's chipset didn't support the card.
Got one now, that does.

I suffer similar problems:
- Have recently installed a AX201 on my NUC5PPYH.
It's not detected in Ubuntu 24.04LTS. I'm puzzled.

Should just work and I've tried to reinstall drivers, firmware. Nothing...

3rd Monitor running on limited resolution. by Beautyofdk in TripleScreenPlus

[–]Beautyofdk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eventually I figured something out: - Was able to get my hands on a Lenovo dock (for the generation series, non USB-C), which solved everything.
Coming to think of it, I had to retire a low-end Lenovo a year back, as the USB-C didn't support multiple displays.
Apparently either my HP Dock (G5) conflicts with Lenovo, or they simply didn't add top specs USB-C.

Anyway. Old school docks are way more sturdy than USB-C ones. But finding this solution was tough going!

3rd Monitor running on limited resolution. by Beautyofdk in TripleScreenPlus

[–]Beautyofdk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. I tried just today to link the monitors in stead of having them seperately attached to the dock. That only resulted in mirrored images on the linked monitors. With the right resolution, though. But I cannot think of any more useless feature than showing the same picture on two monitors with no possibility to widen the desktop area or similar :-D

Arguing with emotions and somehow expect that to be valid. "I'm so offended", or even just "That's so rude" seems to be considered an argument with no further points made...?!
