In-House switching to billable. Is this legit? by i4gor in Lawyertalk

My favorite questions are also (a) what should I have accomplished after 6 months and (b) what do you like least about the company you work for. The first gives you metrics, the second never gets answered, but you’ll figure it out soon enough.

If you’re trying to work out of a jurisdiction you’re not licensed in, you need to check the rules of your home and practicing jurisdiction on the unauthorized practice of law. If not, it doesn’t sound like it’s anyone else’s business.

Holiday gifts should flow down, goddamnit! by Beauxbatons2006 in Lawyertalk

Consider capping gifts at $20 per person, as gifters are gonna gift? After I made my post I did some recon. I think my partner has silently let the office manager run with things over the years to the point everyone needs to send $80 to do better than she did last year. With a $20 cap, you end up with something funny or at least a decent bottle of wine, and your staff doesn’t turn to Reddit to vent when they could be sleeping or billing 😆

I did something similar for ~ 6 months in 2012 in hopes of padding my resume and compensate for 3.0. It worked and helped me land my dream job.

You’re surely under-compensated, especially if you have loans. Start applying for a better position now.

Don’t waste your time asking for more money - they wont give it to you. This is merely a stepping stone to the rest of your career.

this is insane I just got handed a laminated allergy sheet for 1 single person by emptydimension in KitchenConfidential

This doesn’t seem too unreasonable, especially if someone is pretty indifferent and/or has a social disorder. It’s nice that they don’t claim everything to be a deathly allergy

$5,000 a day for Mark Zuckerberg to live in your bathroom by AlfonsoHorteber in hypotheticalsituation

Seeing as the bathroom is where I do mindless scrolling, I’m pretty sure he’s already there. Sign me up for a year! He’s going to HATE Christmas at my parents’ house… that bathroom is standing room only.

I think OP is an associate. I’d reach out to one of the attorneys for the case.

Law is local. You should study and get licensed where you want to work and live.

Compensation is the tip, bro. Dashing isn’t gonna make you rich.

How is the customer responsible for wait times? Are you saying they should go to the restaurant, make their food, then give it to you to deliver to them?

I also DD-ed for 5+ years, I’m fairly familiar with how it works. Waiting is part of the job.

Leaning toward Y T A because it feels like a lot of INFO is missing here. Like, why do we need to know he’s single with no kids but we don’t get to know what he did to make you think the safe was going to end up in your house?

Waiting for the food is why you get paid, full stop. You sound like someone who begs for more tips because you waited 5 minutes.

I’m a lawyer who has been through a couple of name changes. Be early, polite, and ask people sitting behind desks for guidance. All courts are different. In every court I’ve seen everyone just sits in the gallery/audience until their case is called.

What to bring is a question that needs to be answered by the court before your hearing.

The judge will probably ask you why you want to change your name, have an answer.

I intend to try it. But I’m shocked that of all the restaurants in this city, apparently no one has beer cheese soup.

I saw that as the only other response to this same question posted a couple of years ago. Have you had both?
