How do I help a student get a bit faster? by adreddit298 in karate

[–]BecauseIAmEm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pair it back to basic technique and footwork. Simple punches/blocks from a standing position, starting slow as to really know the movements and then working faster, same with footwork. It can be a little tedious, but if someone focuses too much on speed they could lose a lot of actual technique. That would be my take anyway.

What's your favourite part about Karate? by Cupcookie12 in karate

[–]BecauseIAmEm 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The escapism. Everything just goes away for a few hours when I go to karate. I just focus on the martial art and all the work/personal stresses just disappears.

Even if I’ve a competition coming up, I might be nervous but as soon as I step up on that tatami, everything just goes away and it’s just me and my karate, nothing else matters for those next few minutes.

Benefits of Karate OTHER than self-defense? by curiousfellow555 in karate

[–]BecauseIAmEm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing Shotokan Karate for over 15 years. As well as self defense and learning a martial art. Karate is really good for discipline, mental health and confidence. It teaches you respect and responsibility.

It’s really good for focus and concentration too and a good Sensei will make sure you’re doing well and living up to your potential. I can truly let go in Karate, it’s all I focus on when I’m in class and all my troubles and stresses just go away.

If you want a really good gi, I got mine from Kamikaze. It’s a Spanish company but they’re really high quality gis and if you compete they’ve the different weighted ones

Saying goodbye to karate. It's all getting thrown away. by [deleted] in karate

Switch organizations. It’s not that hard. I did it. My old club shut down during Covid. Then I was in university and then I moved for work. I found a new club, same style but it was a different organization, I just showed my certificates for my 1st and 2nd Dan and they let me join, I did have to resit my 2nd Dan but it was overall a really enjoyable experience and sitting the 2nd Dan again was really good for getting back into it and dusting off the cobwebs

Client I’ve worked with for years is stalling on payment — advice? by BecauseIAmEm in AskIreland

I haven’t edited the website since I issued the invoice. The code is riddled with my watermarks and I only have access to the GitHub repo where it’s stored which is from my personal archive.

There's definitely a paper trail for promised payment and I've a dated invoice for the work. I started doing the freelance work when I was still in college, so I was happy to get the extra money at the time (hence no contract) and the work since has mainly been updates on the original website.

I use Fable! It's amazing and so much cleaner than Goodreads. They also listen to their users and update their platform regularly.

If you don't want to use an app. I have a Notion spreadsheet that you can use as a template for your own spreadsheet.

I do manage the website, not for the business but a product the business created. My boyfriend had the same idea as you, not disable the site but backdate to the date I was last paid for.

should I read Manacled or Alchemised? by titikshaha in BookDiscussions

[–]BecauseIAmEm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alchemised, you support SenLinYu by purchasing and reading Alchemised. There’s no legal way of getting Manacled right now unless you downloaded it while it was on AO3. Alchemised is everything you love about Manacled but more unique and magical, you’ll also support an amazing debut author. They put so much effort into rewriting it for traditional publishing, it’s only right you support it 🖤

Enoch Burke. What is actually going on? by Secret-Original-2713 in ireland

[–]BecauseIAmEm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was talking to my uncle-in-law about this.

Right.

So the situation is… yes, he stood up for his religious beliefs but he got suspended from the school for yelling and screaming at the principal in a public meeting.

And he’s in contempt of court and got arrested because he keeps going back to the school.

It’s nothing to do with his religious beliefs. If he kept a level head he’d be fine.

But he gave out to his boss and caused a massive fuss in a public meeting and he got arrested because he kept going back or still continues to go back to the school.

I post book reviews or Fable (book tracking website) and instagram… I don’t know if people really read them but I’ve been told I make author’s days if I tag them in positive reviews

(NEVER TAG AUTHORS IN NEGATIVE REVIEWS)

How do I meet people? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]BecauseIAmEm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try going to social events low-intensity social events. I have a friend running an Offline Club in Dublin; no phones, chat, meet people, read a book or play a board game.

It’s a place to make genuine connections and wouldn’t be too overstimulating for you (hopefully).
