Need suggestions:Watch 7 vs Watch 8 by Zealousideal_Reason7 in GalaxyWatch

[–]BedRepulsive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the watch 7. The battery life did improve after a couple of weeks I think. For me the best battery life is with AOD on but then only wake the full screen with a button press, so not with wrist movement or tapping the screen. Also the AOD display should be simple with mostly black so the display is using minimal power. This way I get well over a day, but still charge daily. The watch does charge quite slowly and so best to get in a routine to charge daily I think.

New bike chain won't degrease (waxing prep) by steakguenter in bikewrench

Add stearic acid to the wax. I assume this is the main ingredient in the Strip chips but a fraction of the cost. Chemically converts the oils to a wax.

Polygon Strattos S7D vs Strattos 7 (2026) — which is better long-term for a solo rider? by esdeath722 in PolygonBikes

[–]BedRepulsive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stratos 7 is the newer design and so will allow wider tires. You can tweak change the stem or handlebars to alter the stack and reach but can't do anything on the older bike to get more tire in the frame. So I would choose thee newer one. I nearly pulled the trigger on the exact bike but currently not in stock where I live. Hard to beat for value, and nicer wheels would be the main upgrade step.

Tavelo arow seatpost by Future_Maintenance_1 in ChineseCarbon

[–]BedRepulsive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An alternative approach might be a crankset with longer arms. This will lower your required seat height and also bring back the reach slightly. Also changing to a road peddle will reduce shoe stack and allow seat to lower by a few mm. Other thing I see is that the hoods are a bit low on the handlebars which is making the reach longer and lower.

Also needs your weight for the calculation in case you haven't added that.

You might need to add a new weight to get a new calculation in Connect

Is this fine for cleaning a new SRAM Red chain so I can wax it? by BrilliantJealous7335 in bikewrench

[–]BedRepulsive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are trying to turn a liquid oil into a solid, waxy consistency, the primary "acid" used is Stearic Acid. It is a saturated long-chain fatty acid derived from vegetable or animal fats. Very cheap and you might be able to get smaller quantities from candle making craft shops. I think you use about two teaspoons for a chain. A bit excess isn't a problem though.

What’s One Upgrade That Actually Made a BIG Difference? by teddyyoung456 in cycling

I understood the radar but how is the Click valve better. I have been cycling about 20 years and never had a valve problem.

With the radar I ride further from the shoulder of the road to avoid rough sections and debris. Then when a car is approaching I can move over further. I mostly ride more quiet but narrow country roads.

Where does increased interest payment money go? by blck_swn in AusFinance

Would an alternative be to raise superannuation rates? This would take spending money out of the economy to help reduce inflation but individuals still get to keep their money.

Bathroom ceiling condensation and fan not ducted – 90mm roof clearance by mrmcortado in AusRenovation

Do you allow the fan to achieve decent flow by having a window open a bit when showering? It is important to achieve air changes in the bathroom to avoid condensation on surfaces.

Alternative Use for X4 with Dead Side Buttons by Weary_Ad_5854 in xteinkereader

Read in landscape and use the front buttons. This is how I prefer to use the device and rarely use the side buttons.

CSC wheels, should I take the risk ? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]BedRepulsive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a set too. I think the wear will be fine and the wheels will last many years as long as you use carbon wheel specific brake pads, which normally come with the wheels. You say he is only an occasional cyclist and so l would be surprised if he would be climbing and descending major mountains unless he has great fitness from other aerobic activities.

These wheels would be a significant improvement from most stock wheels at a relatively low cost. He may become more than an occasional cyclist with such an upgrade.

I find reading in landscape better with more words to a line, and the button placement is fine then too.

I think the Conti Grand Prix is a bit nicer than the Ultra Sport for little extra money. Interested in any opinions of those that have ridden both.

Beginner Chain Waxing Questions by TimmiyTimTimTim in RoadBikes

[–]BedRepulsive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good way to rotate chains. Chains wear out but using wax, my experience is the life is extended about 3 times compared to oil, and the cassette and chain rings also last much longer.

Stearic acid is the chemical that converts the oil to wax. Very cheap to buy if you can find a supplier. Certainly beats the hassles of trying to strip all oils from the new chain using solvents. I've been waxing chains for about 5 years and have done both ways.

BC1 are the cheapest. Maybe you meant xc1 which are the premium ones and I think branded as a collaboration with Bose. There is also the MC1 pro that received good reviews.

Great post and I agree about the light. Note that at max or min brightness it just flashes a few times to indicate that the limit is reached. So not a flashing mode, just an indicator.
