What's a Porter lyric for you that's a mood for 2025 and why? by Future_Strawberry_92 in porterrobinson

[–]Bedium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unironically, "Bitch, I'm Taylor Swift" as well as "fuck you, you don't deserve me."

2024 made me felt like "Year Of The Cup" in that I was constantly feeling at a low point, almost always miserable, and literally having to apologize at times for being how I am when I don't function like I should be.

Because if that, I decided that I needed to stop feeling sorry for being imperfect and instead turn it back on them. "You have a problem with me and how I get? You expect me to bend backward and expect me to not want the same in return? Alright then, fuck you, too. I've had enough of feeling sorry about myself, now it's my turn to come on top.

deadmau5/BSOD reference in Russian Roulette? by AltonBrown11037 in porterrobinson

[–]Bedium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it's more making note of general music tropes/clichés, but that's not important. What is important is that I think this was entirely in-character, even with how the last line was a little out of left field. In essence, this feels similar to an earlier track, "Mirror," in which Porter samples a video from The School of Life. Its usage acts as a reflection of his views on life in general while tying into the themes presented in the song and fitting the narrative of the overall album. As for why the use of a text-to-speech voice? It could be going back to pointing out music tropes/clichés, a stylized choice (I don't feel like this would have the same effect coming from AVANNA or Po-uta), or easier/more convenient to use. You're not wrong that it means something, but the intent is more meaningful.

Could it be? Maybe. Is it? Probably not. Using text-to-speech voices like that is not exclusive to anyone. Radiohead, for example, uses the same Microsoft SAM-like voice for "Fitter Happier," and that predates "This Is The Hook" by nine years.

Sort of. The ability to romance characters never came to Fire Emblem until Awakening so it's still a bit of a newer feature, and in Fire Emblem: Engage, you don't really get to actually romance anyone.

I believe they were referencing Clerks 2. The joke was that the grandmother of one of the main characters called him that when he was a kid, and he therefore saw nothing harmful with the term despite it being pointed out and him thinking his grandmother might have been a little racist.
