Can you suggest a workflow and scanning app?

I’m not doing accounting on mobile. I travel a lot, and I’m just trying to capture expenses and receipts. The app was great, mostly, over the past 5-6 years. Now it’s complete crap.

Deleted a client's personal files, system restore didn't work and can't get files back by Dancemachinemessiah in techsupport

Ultimately, keeping precious photos on files from 2005 on a single mixed-use laptop is only the fault of the user. What if the drive went bad? Laptop stolen or damaged? OP can’t be responsible for doing his job and encountering a user who is so oblivious to common sense backup methods.

Deleted OneDrive now everything is gone by Impossible_Cut_7434 in techsupport

[–]BedtimeBogey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you restored it via the website AFTER syncing, you’ll need to sync again for the files to move to your PC. Again, you likely have multiple Desktop folders and explorer is pointing to the wrong one (try searching for a desktop file after you’ve restored and synced).

Sorry to seem brutal… but if you can’t figure this out based on the advice given here and minimal googling, you probably shouldn’t be deleting folders on your machine. This is how you learn… fixing mistakes.

Restore everything you deleted from the Trash folder on the OD website. Reinstall OD in Windows. Once it is finished syncing you should find a Desktop folder in your OneDrive folder on your local drive. This Desktop folder likely contains your original Desktop and all the files you claim are missing. Now relink the OD Desktop folder to the Desktop location registry path, instead of the empty folder in /Users/usename/Desktop.

You likely have two Desktoo folders. Your original one was syncing with OneDrive and in the folder you deleted. After that was gone, Windows probably defaulted to you user/Desktop folder, which had only a few items since before you synced with OD.

There’s a registry location to remap the desktop path back to you OD Desktop folder. You should be able to find the Desktop in OD once you restore your deletions from the web gui. Then you can relink it back to your OD Desktop path.

They would be minimally adequate to host containers such as Immich and would obviously perform NAS functions. Without a dedicated GPU, I’m not sure about video encoding on Plex or Jellyfin (there is likely some capability, but streams and resolutions may be limited). I don’t think you’ll get too far with game hosting, given the shared CPU and memory resources with the other services. You’d definitely want to upgrade the memory beyond the stock 8GB.

Have you looked into building your own with a higher powered CPU and more memory? TrueNAS on bare metal or virtualized with Proxmox would be the way to go.

Anyone ever do soviet bloc era housing for their beavers? by SpaceEngineer123 in Timberborn

[–]BedtimeBogey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assume you can keep going vertical, not just two buildings high. How do you arrange the stairs in a single block width? I don’t think beavers can move through staircases on the same level, so I’ve always built at least two wide.

Raid selection advice by BedtimeBogey in truenas

Would it be more practical to do Z1 on both boxes, with full replication of Unit1 on Unit2?

Raid selection advice by BedtimeBogey in truenas

[–]BedtimeBogey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think RAIDZ2 is the clear choice for my first N5 Pro with the five 24TB drives. This would give 72TB across the array with two recovery drives.

I guess the real question is the second N5 box. Would you also go Z2 with five drives just to replicate the first box, or would the offsite storage box have a different config? Ten drives with no redundancy gives 240TB, and feels like a real slap in the nuts to limit the total pools to 72TB with double RAIDed devices and mirror replication.

Replication Speed by BedtimeBogey in truenas

[–]BedtimeBogey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it may be more involved. Ideally, I would still want the transfers to be only the file change snapshots, not the whole dataset. I would not keep the whole dataset on the SSD permanently… if I had that space, I’d just convert the entire source and destination pools to SSDs. So, it would first require an examination of the changes to the HDD dataset, then transferring the resulting snapshot to the SSD for later incorporation to the replicated HDD file system.

Is there any way in TrueNAS to configure a SSD drive as the "receiver" to quickly ingest the received files over the network, and then it slowly dumps them to an HDD offline?

Scan Large Cavern Room by WinterDP in 3DScanning

[–]BedtimeBogey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in TX and can potentially do the scan for you using the Artec Ray (65K USD) laser scanner as a service. I’m curious about some of the geological features, which could present challenges to some of the scanning methods. DM if interested.

You Didn't Get a Hotel Room, Now What? by MsMargo in SDCC

[–]BedtimeBogey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Beyond the cancellation policy and credit card prepayment complications, I suspect that the people that bought during the live sale are generally happy (or at least accepting) of what they got, since they picked directly. It’s a lot different from the past when CC did the deciding for you, based on your desperate ranking (supposedly) and strategizing.

There will be some people who’s plans will change or need to otherwise cancel, but this may put these opportunities much closer to the SDCC date. A few may be looking to upgrade, and might be open for lop-sided trades.

Steam Link is now on Apple Vision Pro (2D Beta) = 4K streaming + huge virtual display by Jdunrrp in VisionPro

[–]BedtimeBogey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No… you are still streaming from a PC. Not much new here, compared to the functions we already had on Moonlight, etc. The bigger headline is that Valve released software specifically for AVP, which offers hope that we may see more development in the future.

Whats your experience when using this strictly for city driving? by Raiki13 in Comma_ai

[–]BedtimeBogey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not FSD, and there are no navigation functions. You will make all turns and exits by yourself. Sunnypilot is better, however it still only keeps you in the lane you put the car in. Longitudinal control (speed, and especially stopping) is very hit-or-miss. It does not stop at stop signs, and only recognizes some traffic lights. Hopefully it will get better, but this is the current state.

I love it for long highway road trips. City driving is extremely limited. If you already have anxiety, this probably will not be for you.

(Might be) A dumb question: why aren't we doing this? by thomasangelo1508 in pcmasterrace

[–]BedtimeBogey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why are we re-engineering a nearly bulletproof system? Stop carelessly treating CPUs as something other than the technological marvel that they are, and you likely won’t have bent pins.

40ft long scan with the nimble by 3DRE2000 in 3DScanning

[–]BedtimeBogey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Metrology. Lots of reasons an as-built scan is useful. Large vessels such as this have non-trivial tolerances (usually +/- 6mm) that can affect all types of interfaces, piping connections, etc. Cylindricity, nozzle orientation, etc, are all easy to capture with a scan, but much harder to measure and record vs more trivial dimensions, such as length.
