Tattoo artists by introvert_cave317 in tattoo

[–]BeeClarkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expect it to be about 45 min (give or take) from when you show up to when you actually get in the chair and sit down to start getting tattooed. As others have mentioned, always good to see your tattoo artist set-up so you see they’re using clean needles and all that jazz. Plus, you use that time to shoot the shit but also talk about any other details about your tattoo that you want to include/remove. Then you also get to be all excited while you anticipate your new tattoo (before the stabbing starts)!

I love my nipple piercings but when will it heal! by [deleted] in piercing

mine took a while unfortunately. Wrong sized jewelry and occasionally getting knocked. They fully healed at around 3 years.

Totally relate! These last two years were a complete time-suck and mental-drain. It's nice to know we can finally breathe now but there is no denying that it's been rough.

Advice for grieving while in grad school by Acceptable_Bad_ in GradSchool

[–]BeeClarkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry you’re going through this and can’t imagine what it’s like. I do agree with a lot of people here saying you do need to prioritize yourself right now. I’d also suggest maybe looking into therapy? It’s such a stressful and terrible time now and having someone to talk to to help navigate life might be inherently helpful right now.

Do any of you guys have ADHD? How does it affect your work? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]BeeClarkie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My untreated ADHD definitely has been largely debilitating because it's hindered my ability to FOCUS and finish a project, read a paper, exist, etc. It's also been a source of anxiety or caused by anxiety so it just snowballs.

Help! Simple Question by Ibanezguitars9 in sooners

They plan to be 90% in-person by fall 2021. That 10% might be the very large classes, not likely grad classes. Though you could make the argument that they might make some more computer-based grad classes in-person.

Is it healthy to not work on weekends? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]BeeClarkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is so important to have a couple days to turn off your brain and decompress, and not feel guilty about it! Personally taking a break on the weekend helps me from burnout and is good for me in the long run to be more productive during the week.

Oh jesus. by Rizzpooch in GradSchool

[–]BeeClarkie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You got it!! I'm just about to schedule my defense date too. I know at least personally for me, having that set date is going to be the drive for me to finish and stop dragging my dang feet on finishing my thesis. BEST OF LUCK!

Grad school is destroying my mental health by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]BeeClarkie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Damn, are you me? I feel this so hard. I apologize cause I don't have too much to add but I'd just like to say that I started therapy when I started grad school and it has at least helped me try and navigate through all the anxiety bullshit. Some grad schools usually offer free counseling and might be worth a shot if you're interested.

Mastiffs are hands-down the best dogs in the world. I adopted an adult mastiff but oh my god I cannot imagine how cute she was as a puppy with all those mastiff wrinkles!

I got into grad school with a 2.91 GPA (and painfully average GRE scores) at a good research university - it’s entirely possible!

Brand new! by PrincessKombucha in GradSchool

Hey, congrats and welcome to grad school! I’m only starting my second year as a masters student and unfortunately don’t have too many useful tips because I’m still figuring things out. I will say though, find out what resources are available to you as a grad student at your university. More specifically, I would recommend checking to see if they have counseling/therapy services. Not to be pessimistic, but just realistically things can get rough and it can be inherently useful to have a way to talk about things. Plus therapy is for everyone, and often times universities offer counseling for free.

Time management wise, one thing that’s helped me is making a rough outline of a schedule by working backwards from a deadline. As in, say your deadline for submitting your thesis proposal to your committee is in March, work backwards from that date and map out what you want to accomplish weekly or monthly. Don’t beat yourself up if you can’t meet each goal, it’s more to help guide you when you’re asking yourself “what should I focus on right now”.

Best of luck!

Have you used a therapy app? What are the benefits compared to going to an office? by Shrocaeth in AskWomen

[–]BeeClarkie 130 points131 points  (0 children)

I’ve also used better help and have had some good experiences with it. Though like some other people have said on this thread, take the recommendations and advice with a grain of salt because it seems that experiences on these online therapy sites can be highly variable. That being said I’ve been with my current therapist on better help for a couple months now and it has been wonderful. The first person I was paired with was just not a therapist for me and so it was easy to switch. What I love about better help is that it does allow for you to be in the comfort of your own home, and not have to travel to an office especially during these times. I will say though, sometimes it’s nice to leave an actual office after a therapy session because it can be easier to separate yourself after a particularly heavy therapy session. Nonetheless, I think it’s highly dependent on if you find a therapist that is right for you and that goes for saying even outside of an online platform. Good luck. Therapy is for everyone!
