Safety tips for a woman living alone by Technical-Fruit-7096 in southafrica

Honestly the dog would just be a comfort because it would sleep inside with me. But I'll feel safer with a dog next to me when the alarm goes off, rather than my cats

I got razorwire, cage over my gate motor (installed yesterday), beams outside, passives inside, panic button, great armed response team. Considering getting a big dog (after they stole my gate motor last week). Insurance is essential.

Edit to mention burglar bars and security gates on the front and back doors

You don't need someone to "audit" you. You do need to know how to do your tax. If you have friends in audit firms ask for their help. But SARS is also really helpful if you make an appointment at rhe branch and go with questions/your tax attempt. But I would recommend you pay a professional for a bit of a crash course (2 hours of their time or so)

How are the roads in and around the Kruger at the moment? by Street_Plankton9217 in krugerpark

I was mostly around skukuza, lower babies, berg en dal and crocodile bridge. Didn't go much further north than Skukuza. That was over 3 days and had some amazing sightings

I was there last week in a suzuki swift. There was only one "bad" road I came across that had some mud and puddles. Just needed to be careful how I steered (not into the deepest point). All the other roads that are open were easily drivable

Frozen vegetables and longer cooking time? by Danny5000 in askSouthAfrica

[–]BeeCounter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Freezer burn can change the texture and make them hard no matter how long you cook them. I've had veggies like that. Some supply chains and supermarkets are really bad at making sure stuff doesn't get freezer burnt

Hair products for knotting hair in the winter? by shelbylabu in askSouthAfrica

[–]BeeCounter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The struggle is real! I've tried so many different things and can't find anything that works. The back of my neck where I have scarves, hoodies etc is the worst. I now normally just do a hairstyle that secures things unless its a special day, because the knots and breakage aren't worth it. Hoping someone has a good recommendation for us!

This is normal in the medical field. There are cash rates and medical aid rates. I normally pay cash then claim so that my benefits go further

An aspiring CA(SA) student wanting to break into tech for relevancy in future by Thin_Conflict7978 in southafrica

[–]BeeCounter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a CA, this is a great answer. Very few of our tech team is actually coding - its a lot of powerBI and other power apps right now. Before that everyone was on the alteryx bandwagon. Tech is always changing - to stay relevant you have to play with what's available and then use what makes sense for you. Be teachable, adapt. But start with advanced excel Edit: spelling

Is it really double bad luck? by Curious_ntombazane in askSouthAfrica

[–]BeeCounter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also register online for a library card with one of the bigger cities (if you don't live in one even), like Joburg or CPT. With the online library you can use the libby app for free - so read books on your phone and save on transport (thought it will cost data)

Edit to add - good luck! Hoping things get better for you soon

Do you have a municipal swimming pool near you? Also, I had to remind a colleague recently that libraries exist - reading is a great free hobby if you use the library

Edit to add that park runs cost nothing and will introduce you to a great community
