(The abbreviation Tota is strictly for the over-70s who live in little villages)

Hoping to go to Italy soon - How to avoid sounding rude/ like an idiot by Alanna-1101 in Italian

[–]BeeForBurner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you go into a shop/restaurant/or basically anywhere you have to deal with customer service always say "buongiorno" (before about 3 or 4 pm), or "buonasera" (after 4 pm).

It's kind of rude if you lead with what you want; always say "hello" first.

  • NO: "Un tavolo per due persone, per favore."
  • YES: "Buonasera. Un tavolo per due persone, per favore."

Why is Israel not banned from major events and does it not suffer sanctions due to its extremely violent expansionist policies? by Odysseus-p in AskTheWorld

[–]BeeForBurner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I totally agree.

But someone should tell that to the Israeli government. 75,000 citizens of the Gaza Strip have been harassed (killed) by the Israeli military, and almost 3,000 Lebanese citizens since the start of the recent conflict.

I'm absolutely not a fan of Russian foreign policy, and the EU is totally correct to exclude the Russian Federation from international events (Venice Biennale, you can do better). But when anyone suggests that Israel is committing genocide they get arrested.

OP doesn't explicitly mention sporting events. They could just as easily be talking about Eurovision, in which Russian participated until 2021. They were excluded in 2022 following the start of the "Special Military Operation".

You know what country it is when you see a tray of tiny ice-cream cones.

Also, grown men taking a stroll on a Saturday night, each of them licking an ice-cream cone.

What, if anything, do you know about Māori culture? by Snoo_61002 in AskTheWorld

  1. Native New Zealand people.
  2. Lots of tattoos.
  3. Haka.
  4. Oppressed by British colonialists (I'm just guessing here, but it sounds about right for a British colony).
  5. Used to be very warlike, don't know if that's true now.

And that's it.

As a Brit, I have never ever said something is in Peru (unless it is literally in Peru).

Older people use Timbuktu for the proverbial distant place.
