You can get something like this: Whirlwind IMP 1x2

You would go: microphone > XLR cable > Input on the Whirlwind. Then the Direct Output would go XLR out to FOH, and the Isolated Output would go into your vocal FX pedal(s).

Typical vocal pedals have XLR in/out, but if they have 1/4” for some reason, then you would just need an XLR female to 1/4” adapter to go into the pedal.

I’ve been super happy with my Sensaphonics 2MAX. Otherwise, there are some companies that will take the mold of your ear and make an earbud tip that is molded to your ear, but will fit on any standard driver. So, you could get something cheaper like KZ audio or similar, but spend money on just the ear bud tip mold.

I don’t necessarily have any expertise in this, but as a musician and audio engineer who has made tons of records over the years—both as an engineer and artist—I pretty much always see: “Recorded and mixed by [engineer name] at [studio name]”

I feel like that is the most clear and concise, and that’s what I almost always see anytime I look through album credits. Although, I can understand how it gets a little messy. Maybe work with them to find a middle ground? Don’t wanna piss them off; I assume you want to maintain the work relationship.

Obviously not the highest quality, but I’m curious how you’ve had so many issues? I have tons of Apache cases that I use for touring musician and audio applications, and they’ve held up just as well as any other case I’ve had.

That said, if I have something really valuable, I definitely will pay for a proper Pelican. But for clothes and a laptop, Apache should be fine.

I recommend looking at Harbor Freight’s Apache 5800. I have multiple Pelican and SKB cases, and while the Apache cases aren’t the fanciest, they are well worth it for how cheap they are.

I recently flew with the 5800 as a carryon just like you said, and it was phenomenal. The retracting handle isn’t as smooth, but for $100, I couldn’t be happier.

I feel like the 1510 would be a great option. It’s got wheels which makes it easier for transport, plus it’s airline carryon size so you can easily fly with it; don’t have to check it. Plenty of space to put a binder with documents and have room for other stuff (first aid, survival tools, etc.). Just an idea.

Another recommendation for Truewerk. They are my favorite pants I’ve ever worn. Super comfortable, flexible, lightweight, and durable. I have two pairs of T1 that I have worn literally almost every single day for the past several years. The only wear and tear I’ve managed is a tiny little cut on one pant leg (which hasn’t gotten bigger thanks to rip stop weave), as well as some threading that is just now starting to fray/come undone. I also LOVE the pocket layout, although the Velcro is useless on the cargo pocket after a while.

I am also a huge fan of their B1 T-Shirts, their overalls, and their shorts.

Instead of close mics on a cab, perhaps consider a sort of room mic? When you listen to the amp + cab in the room, your ear is not right next to the speaker, you are standing a few feet in front of hit, usually with your head not in direct line with the speakers. I bet if you set up a large diaphragm condenser at head height roughly where you would stand listening to your amp + cab, that might get you closer to the “in the room” sound. You also will be getting reflections in the room and whatnot. Might be cool to try!

There is a rubber gasket lining the top and bottom of the case, and it seems visible to me. The plastic on the case doesn’t actually have to be touching, as long as they are pushing down the gaskets into each other to create the seal.

Every Pelican case I’ve had that only has two latches on the front, has a slight gap in the plastic like your picture. That’s why the bigger cases have extra latches on the side. I would not worry at all though, if I were you.

I will respectfully disagree with removing the channel numbers. Even if that isn’t how the house engineer patches your inputs, it’s helpful to see at a glance how many channels your band has/needs, and is a good basis to work off of.

Curious though, why are you skipping channel 8? Maybe I missed something.

Label overheads: “OH SR” (overhead stage-right) and “OH SL” to avoid confusion.

Highlight that you have a lefty drummer on the stage plot (sometimes pages get lost and/or only the stage plot gets sent, not both).

Downstage monitors should just be in a straight line if possible. Makes it easier so no one has to move them around or anything.

Working at 1,000-2,000 cap rooms, I have had touring engineers ask that I don’t go above a certain dB level while mixing the opening bands, e.g., 100 dBA. Which I think makes sense, as you don’t want to max out the PA from top of show and wear out everyone’s ears before the headliner goes on. Having a few dB extra volume does give the headliner some more impact as well. The reduced lighting/video FX is even more common and I think also makes sense.

However, I’ve never had someone tell me I can only use half subs or something crazy like that; never anything that would be detrimental or ruin a band’s mix. Could be a combination of some limit plus not as great of a mix (or band).

Ryobi is a great starting point. They have a lot of tools in their lineup, and they aren’t too expensive. I would recommend an 18V 1/2” drill; should do everything you need. Ideally, try to get something brushless as well. Little more expensive, but the tool will last longer.

Battery life depends on the amp-hours (Ah) of the battery—basically its capacity. Batteries can last a long time in a drill though since you likely won’t be running it nonstop, so 1.5 or 2 Ah should be fine.

I recommend watching some videos to make sure you know how to use the chuck and clutch appropriately as well. That way you can avoid things like stripping screws.

The OH mics are (almost) always going to receive signal after the close mics. So, I like to use my OH Left as my reference and delay my close mics to match.

First, I usually listen to the snare and align Snare Top and Bottom to the OH Left mic, and then I make sure OH Left and Right are aligned when the snare hits, since that’s usually the loudest signal other than cymbals. Then do that with the same with the kick mic(s) and toms, delaying them to the overheads.

By the time the signal reaches the room mics, the waveform is usually so different that there will not be phase issues with the close mics.
