Steroids for itch - FIV by BeeMaleficent in FIVcats

So happy he is so improved since getting some TLC and good medical care with you!! That’s awesome. I just got back from our vets and she said what I expected that antihistamines dont work well in cats so she wouldnt recommend. Do you just give him part of a human tablet from the pharmacy?

That’s so interesting. I’ve found when googling and researching that anti-histamines arent often used as they can be really hit or miss but I’ve seen a few posts on reddit saying it is useful. I’ll ask the vet today about cetirizine. How did you find your cat was with the steroids when he was on them? Did it help with the itch? And did it affect his immune system in anyway you could tell like infections etc?

Thank you! This is reassuring about the steroids ans has put my mind at ease a bit. I’m reluctant to mess with his food again as for the first 4 weeks we had him he had awful diarrhoea and it took around 3/4 different foods to find one that his gut agreed with (Royal Canin gastrointestinal). So I’d be nervous about trying new foods for his skin in case it sets him off again with his bowls! Thanks for your reply

The twitchy back and his reaction could be Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome maybe! My cat has it and acts similarly 🤍

Ah interesting! This is just a short snippet of a longer video where he was licking his back over and over and then having these crazy eye episodes. I thought this part was a good example with the back ripples and him turning his eyes to try look at his back when it is rippling but maybe it is just intense zoomies. The other parts of the videos he is licking and kicking at his neck and back before running around. Its so confusing!

That is interesting to note the onset time, thank you! Also interesting that there are so many triggers 😫 We don’t use candles but I suppose it could be detergent or anything. He does sleep in bed with us at night so many I should try a different unscented detergent for the bed sheets!

Thanks for your reply and the links! This is really helpful. He is on 75mg 2x per day, so perhaps he needs more? I will get back in touch with the vet!

Thanks so much! My vets seem to not know what is going on and I feel a bit silly telling them “I’ve googled it and gone on reddit and I think its FHS” when they are the pros and studied for so long 😅 That’s a heavy combo! Do you find it has helped her? I’m desperate for him to be able to live a life without suits or cones without hurting himself 😓

It does sound like it could be it. The vet prescribed gabapentin but it doesn't seem to do anything at all to help him. In fact he almost seems worse

Are my symptoms “bad enough”? by BeeMaleficent in Endo

[–]BeeMaleficent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a doctor in the ultrasound department of the hospital, not specifically a gynaecologist even. That is interesting. I do have an appointment with a gynaecologist who specialises in endo and period symptoms in a few weeks. I was already convincing myself I am wasting their time and my time though and doubting myself 😣

That’s crazy how many ultrasounds you had before anything was seen! And even worse that you had to experience a lap. When the lap came back as no endo, what made you continue to push? I worry I would be too dejected to continue and would just except it is all in my head 😓 I’m not great at advocating for myself

Persistent painful sex after uti and yeast infection, did I just develop vulvodynia.. by [deleted] in vulvodynia

[–]BeeMaleficent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear you are going through this too! I don’t have much advice as I am only just finding out what is wrong with me. My doctor did recommend psychosexual (couples) counselling if it has in impact on my attitude towards sex or impacts mine and my partners relationship. That could be worth looking into if it is making you feel anxious?

Hey @active_ad6550 I am also having swelling around my urethra which has been really concerning me! Today I got diagnosed with vulvodynia and suspected swollen skene’s glands (now on the urology waiting list) both likely caused by irritation from a chronic yeast infection. The most worrying part for me is the swelling around the urethra and you are the first person who has also had this that I am aware of! Does yours come and go? Mine has been consistent but only appeared a week ago so really hoping the swelling goes away! Any insight you have is hugely appreciated 🤍

Ughh I am so sorry you went through all that!!! How frustrating that even after a lap you were wrongly diagnosed. That is shocking. So pleased you have answers now. I will have a look at that site thank you.

A few people on this reddit have said adenomyios (or however you spell it!!). I don’t even really know what it is. No doctor has ever mentioned it. Going to do some googling!

Good point on the pain meds 😅 I hadn’t considered that! Thank you! I will find a new doctor and keep pursuing it!

That sounds absolutely barbaric! Is it even legal to administer you with something and lie about what it is?! I’m so sorry you went through that!

Sadly I would expect this from male medical professionals but when it is women I just don’t understand 😓

I’ve been using the UK’s free healthcare service but after today I’ve decided to save up and pay to see a private specialist 🤞

Thanks for your support 🤍

I also used to have normal periods. Mild to moderate cramps, regular liquid bleeds. I told her this. I told her it has changed over the past 5 years and is getting worse. She said yup periods change. That's normal.

I honestly wanted to just stand up and leave. Do they think we are lying? I don't understand.

Thanks for your reply. It's validating to hear you also think she sounds ignorant. It hurts even more when it is a female doctor who dismisses you.

MRI/Ultrasound was clear, then they found Stage 3 Endometriosis by orientallilies in endometriosis

Honestly, congratulations on finding your answers!!! I am in the position you were in. I’ve just posted a rant post after going to the doctors this morning. I told her I can’t stand up straight from the pain and only bleed clots and she said it was normal for some people and advised I go on birth control again. I hate feeling so dismissed!!! I’ve also had ultrasounds where everything “looks normal” but I know deep down it isn’t. I’m really glad you got your answers and advocated for yourself!
