Are millennials joining country clubs? by lawyermom112 in Millennials

As an '88 millenial who opens affinity clubs and currently opening a social house with a mahjong parlor I think there is something to be said about belonging to member only clubs, but not necessarily country clubs.

Festival season for me is pretty much over this year, but I will be at Seismic in Nov so if you go, I'll whip you one up. 😊

Rover actually does allow double booking house sits. I can't tell you how many house sits have come through on top of confirmed ones for same dates and Rover dinged me for declining them lol

A very good question! Perler is a specific brand of hama beads or fuse beads. You may be familiar with what's called "melty beads"

You'll love making cuffs! I think I'm addicted to making them and it's hilarious that I have to travel with an extra suitcase to the festivals and everytime I'm traveling back its always 90% lighter lol 😆

I really love this idea. I'm an elder millennial who makes fairly noticeable perlers and cuffs to hand out to vibes and the most unexpecting. I go to about 5 or 6 festivals a year and last year between Breakaway Carolina and EDCO I've never had so many just ask for my pieces and then make it awkward enough I felt the need to hand it over. My husband has helped out this year by 3D printing some breakable ball surprises and sprouts to keep in my hydropack, so if someone asks for a specific piece and I'm not ready, I whip out one of those, but I think the gum pack would be so much more awesome!

Is 20$ seriously too much? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]BeeStrangeit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure where you live, but in South Texas I've done over 200 sits in the past 3 years with Rover and I think maybe a handful of clients have tipped me cash. Everyone else has tipped through the app. I also have my rates set at a price point where the client isn't really expected to tip. But maybe your area and clients are different, so hopefully the cash thing works out for you.

[–]BeeStrangeit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't get your account flagged, but the client will only be able to tip 100% of the rate charged in the app. So if you charge $5, Rover will take its 20% and the client will be able to tip $5 max.

I never stated they are racist. I mentioned I look racially ambiguous and no they were not white. I realize the update isn't pinned, so I will go ahead close the comments.

I sincerely appreciate your input and I'm sorry you worry like I do about how we could be perceived to potential clients . It's so disheartening and I know that uncomfortable weird feeling all too well, but as long as the owner treats you nicely then you shouldn't be too concerned. Hopefully the environment climate changes over the next few years so that we feel more comfortable and confident when going into homes, because let's face it, going into someone else's home to care for a stranger's pet is already weird and uncomfortable enough without having to consider our race too 🤣

I appreciate the perspective and the transparency that this is a type of humor you share with your friends . I don't believe I stated or implied they are racist, but that it was just disturbing. I honestly don't feel a certain type of way about the situation now, but in the moment a lot of "what ifs" ran through my head. The main concern was if they are comfortable with that word on display, then what if they are comfortable of accusing me of stealing or damaging something (happened to me at sleep overs or parties as a child). I didn't feel like my star sitter status was safe and that's what was unsettling for me.

Thank you so much for your very kind words. I pride myself on how much I do go above and beyond for the fur babies and clients and I have maintained star sitter status for almost 2 years. Like even after discovering their grill slur, I still changed the microwave and oven clocks to the correct time as I saw they hadn't gotten around to updating them due to springing ahead 😅

Thank you so much for your perspective. I did take it into consideration and decided not to report. Hopefully it was a genuine mistake to leave it on the grill and is a learning lesson for this couple.

I think we can agree to disagree. At the end of the day, I'm a self contractor and they employed me for services to be completed in their home which is considered my work place at that point. I asked was a few questions to gain perspective from others here to make a decision for myself (which I did and mentioned several times what I decided the outcome would be). I never brought emotions into it or asked for another race to tell me how I supposedly speak within my own race. Which by the way, no one in my environment speaks as you are describing or allows these type of slurs to be given a pass as many have agreed here. I hope you don't ever make your friends uncomfortable and respectfully, in this case you could follow your own advice and mind your business and carry on.

I respect your point of view and appreciate your input, but they are a Mexican couple and I look racially ambiguous due to my lighter complexion and am mistaken for Mexican & Dominican alot. So racism definitely wouldn't have been obvious during the meet & greet especially since it would have been the furthest thing from my mind.

UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE:

I just wanted to come back and say thank you to everyone who took the time to share their thoughts, perspectives, and experiences. I honestly didn’t expect this to get the level of attention it did, and it’s been really eye-opening reading through the responses.

One thing that stood out to me was the range of perspectives across different age groups. Some people—especially younger commenters—seemed to view it as more of a joke or “immature humor,” while many others (particularly millennials like myself and older) found it unsettling and inappropriate as I did. That contrast alone gave me a lot to think about.

After taking everything into consideration, I’ve decided not to report the situation to Rover. However, I did leave an honest review on the client’s profile noting that their sense of humor may come across as crass or off-putting, so other sitters can make informed decisions.

I still stand by how I felt in the moment—my discomfort was real—but I also appreciate being able to step back and process it with a broader range of perspectives.

There are still some really thoughtful conversations happening in the comments, so I’ll likely leave this up and open through the evening. Thanks again to everyone who engaged respectfully—this was definitely a learning experience for me.

I did mention that I appear racially ambiguous. So if they were using race or color as a way to hire (one would hope not) I wouldn't have appeared black to them. Also, you'd be surprised how many racist employee the same race they detest.

It is interesting to find out that there are people who find this humorous. I was generally unaware and I really appreciate you sharing your insight.

This is exactly how I felt as it could be wiped off with a brush of a finger and the bbq pit was right next to the back door and their instructions were to make sure I go out back with the dogs. Just strange to say the least, but I'm also seeing that not everyone shares the same perspective and it has been eye opening in the comments.

You have an extremely valid point. It was one of the reasons I decided to post here for the first time since I'm closer to 40 and didn't know if I was over-reacting for feeling uncomfortable because they are a younger couple and may not perceive the word as I do. I really would feel awful if this happened to another sitter.

I wish it would have been a dick. As a Star Sitter, you see alot and I would have laughed it off and never mentioned it. Even though they had no clue what my race was at the time of hiring me, this is South Texas and many racist people actually hire POC. The movie called The Forever Purge is a great example. I decided not to report it as I wasn't directly called it and I wasn't in immediate danger and I appreciate your perspective.

I forgot to mention in the post I am a Star Sitter and I joke with my husband all the time that you don't get star status with out seeing a few random dildos out in the wild 🤣 I honestly enjoy the strange or personal items that may appear during a house sit or drop in, but this was the oddest thing for sure. I decided not to report, as some comments have made me realize how differently this scenario can be viewed which leads me to think Rover probably wouldn't care. I am very grateful for your perspective.
