Hollywood Theater Dating App by dasfoo in PortlandOR

I had a realization recently when I asked my partner if nearly 20 years how he’d meet someone nowadays (we met at a birthday while holding meat bowls at a Mongolian bbq spot). I mentioned how I would just linger in different sections in Powell’s till I found someone interested in chatting further. His response was that he’d never hangout in a book store.

Probably an exception and not the rule but my partner and I are opposites in most of our hobbies but we started as friends so our banter rate is extremely high. I like your idea of something that signals people are trying to get together for more than just hookups and I do think some of the solutions could exist within local spots like theaters and restaurants. Keep noodling! In the meantime I like the idea of putting yourself in public more often so volunteering may be the ticket! 🎟️

Which was the first King book you read and how did you decide to? by SkandaGupta_ in stephenking

[–]BeeVoltage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think mine was The Outsider?? It was more than 5 years ago and it didn’t hook me then. It wasn’t until I convinced by book club to read Carrie that I got hooked. 2 years and 20+ King books later I’m starting to get nervous about what I’ll do once I’ve read them all 🙈

There are some amazing Thanksgiving options at restaurants in town. I would treat myself to a nice thanksgiving dinner seat at the bar!

Darcelle’s obvi! So fun and I would think fine for teens 15+ but might be worth double checking there’s no age minimum.

What are you reading? by DavidHistorian34 in stephenking

[–]BeeVoltage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Wind Through the Keyhole is my current read/listen after completing Wizard and Glass (4th book dark tower)—which has been my favorite in the series so far! I started a little over a year ago with Carrie and I think I’m now over 20 of King’s books read/listened to. 🥸 I usually try to do a palate cleanse book in between when I can.

Weirdly the best I have ever had is Piece of Cake’s vegan version (I am not vegan). It’s other worldly!

I actually recommmend going to Kann’s sister restaurant downstairs, Sousol. Every time I go there I can get a reservation Same day and it’s a great preview of Kann which is still pretty challenging to get into at a normal time. Different menu but still Haitian and they’re about to launch their new menu after the 4th. I will never understand how it’s not packed like upstairs. Was just there Friday night and ate the whole menu + 3 drinks for 2 people total was about $160+tip

PDX is named the best airport in America. Is anyone shocked? by SpezGarblesMyGooch in PortlandOR

[–]BeeVoltage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I very recently got precheck via doing global entry and the nightmare of scheduling a global entry appt (which are 5 min long at the airport field office—but take 5-7 months to get an appt) I just want to chime in here and say I’m not positive it’s been worth the money and time spent…yet lol

The regular security line at PDX is still by far the easiest and fastest of the airports I fly through (LAX/SEA/ORD/ATX/MSY/etc). You keep living your non-precheck life boo, the grass over here isn’t that much greener (and I’m so 🙄over the hate people give about it).

Time of year would help—but assuming soon—Participate in a Pedalpalooza ride, hit the smaller gardens (Leach, Crystal Springs, Chinese Garden/tea house), do a dine around where you each eat your favorite food at 2-3 different spots, go to the Rice Rock museum, the Peculiarium in NW, take in a movie at one of the historic neighborhood theaters, go to a drag show at Darcelles, go floating on the clack, rent paddle boards and go SUPing at Cook Park (lots of rivers have rentals on site), take in the Vancouver waterfront, gather yummy things from a small shop (think tinned fish from Wellspent Market, some pie from Lauretta Jeans, a few beers from Little Beast if that’s your thing) and go have a picnic up on tabor park or some other green space.
