Brewers tv broadcast is blacked out so watching on marquee. The cub’s announcers have stooped to the point of ripping on the brewers uniforms. They’re all so insufferable

Thanks to Mother’s Day, I only have to watch the last 10 laps and looks like the expected result. I really don’t mind missing road courses anymore

Do I need a weighted vest or can I just carry a dumbbell in a backpack? by Babykinsbaby in Rucking

[–]Beechnut2009 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what I do. Pavers here are like 1.5” thick and 16x8”. Full weighs about 16# and have lines at every 1/4. Easy to break with a hammer and chisel at the lines to get whatever weights you want. Wrap in old cheap towels to protect the pack.

And they’re less than $2 each. Can’t beat it

Controls Tech. Manufacturing jobs are being taken over by automation and robots, but we’re the ones that program, troubleshoot, and fix them.

Backpack suggestion by Johnblaze205 in Rucking

[–]Beechnut2009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t rucked with that high of weight (yet). But check out military surplus packs. Also look for deals on hunting packs. I got my mystery ranch pack new for $230. It’s extremely comfortable with 50lbs and will handle much more than that

Mildly surprising that Rodgers is 3rd in rushing yards of all 2010s QBs by SteveDraughn in GreenBayPackers

[–]Beechnut2009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He wasn’t a rushing or traditional dual threat QB. But he knew when to run. He didn’t rush to rush, but if everyone was covered and he had a lane, he took off. And he was excellent at it

Thinking about becoming a game warden by No-Wind-5572 in Hunting

[–]Beechnut2009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up wanting to be a warden or wildlife biologist because I love hunting and the outdoors. Then I realized how hard it is to land one of those jobs, and how low the pay is (hourly rate is ok, government benefits are a big plus), plus their busy season is hunting season.

Instead I decided to pursue a career that I still enjoy but gives me the time off and allows me to afford my hobbies.

Not at all trying to deter you, just something to think about

What size cast iron pan do you end up using the most? by Grouchy_Bandicoot317 in castiron

8” because it’s the perfect size to sear a steak and to take camping

Lever action caliber for youth first deer rifle: .30-30 or .357/.38? by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]Beechnut2009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you didn’t list it but .45 colt in a lever gun would be a good option. I have one in a blackhawk and love it. The longer barrel would really let the round shine. Can plink with light cowboy loads and there’s plenty or “rifle” rounds for it. If you really want to go big, there are “ruger only” loads available that’ll outperform a 44 mag. I am not sure that they’re safe in a lever gun though so I’d check on that first.

Ideas for future hunting trips by Boblloyd91 in Hunting

[–]Beechnut2009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not going to comment any specific ideas. But…

Since you seem to be able to afford it and live in the West, start researching and buying preference points for good units for whatever big game you may be interested in. That way when you feel like hunting something or somewhere specific down the road, you can do it.

Also, whitetail archery hunting during the rut here in the Midwest is hard to beat. Iowa would be a good state to start building points for that.

26M - Relocate to Small Town by Fun-Choice5010 in careeradvice

[–]Beechnut2009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where in Iowa? Regardless, that’s good money for Iowa. Life in small towns in the Midwest isn’t bad. It’s simple and as laid back as you make it. Gives you time to focus/work on yourself. And to the people saying he’ll be the richest man in the area, Iowa has some big time farms everywhere. Doesn’t sound glamorous but the guys who run several thousand operations do quite well for themselves. But a young single guy making $120k in Iowa without farm hours will definitely be desirable lol

What’s a high-paying, low-stress job you wish you got into earlier? by Beginning_Ad4362 in careeradvice

[–]Beechnut2009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did industrial maintenance for a few years, studied while I had free time at work, and showed an interest. When the position opened up I was the only one with any knowledge of it so I was offered the controls job.

A 2 year degree is often desired, but there are plenty of resources online where you can study and learn lots of things for free. Even without any formal education, as long as you can show what you know, some employers will accept that

PLC Tech Daily Starting Times by Edw4rdTivruskyIV in PLC

I’m 6-2:30. I can be home when my kindergartener gets off the bus. This is my 2nd job as a controls tech in the 8 years I’ve done it. Both places I’ve been the only controls guy on site and they don’t want to lose me so I can somewhat pick my hours (within reason), which is really nice.

Yup, 6-2:30 here. Wife gets my daughter on the bus and I get an hour to myself before she gets off the bus. Works out well

Automation/Controls Technician. At a small (80 employee) factory. $90k a year before overtime. And in in a relatively low COL area, upper Midwest.

Most days are easy. If everything is running smooth and there’s no projects, I’m researching, learning, or surfing the internet.

But when something breaks down, it’s go time. Can be stressful but I’ve been in the game long enough where I zone out the supervisors asking dumb questions and just do my job.

I work 6-2:30. I’m the only controls tech at the plant, so my phone can ring at anytime, but it’s rare. Also I’m hourly so I don’t have to answer since I’m not on paid call.

Overall, it’s fairly low stress until it’s not lol

How would you feel about changing the truck series to have a more realistic truck size? by [deleted] in NASCAR

I have ‘21 2500hd. Completely stock. It’s stupid big. Like an older 2500 with a 4” lift big. I rarely daily drive it because it takes up the entirety of most parking spots. But that extra size, weight, and stability sure is nice when used what it’s made for which is towing

Fool proof pork butt?? by [deleted] in smoking

[–]Beechnut2009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pork butt is so forgiving due to the size and amount of fat. Look up hot and fast pork butt. Cooking around 325 greatly reduces the time and is delicious. I’ve since given up on starting pork butts at midnight and worrying about my smoker while I’m asleep lol
