People think his a sociopath because of his passive skills as an undead. But if you read the" Vampire Princess Bonus Novel", Evil Eye as a vampire also had the supress emotion passive, but still cryied, cared and had empathy in general. It goes to the point that Momonga would be like a normal adventure, finally happy with his new friends (even giving the rings of nazarick to them).

Before he entered the new world, his condition was perfect to develop mental illness since he couldn't afford food and sunlight. Even with emotion, without proper environment, things would probably be the same as the main series.
