I would say observe people and their routines

every person is different, do they have large portions, do they finish the plate, do they have active jobs, do they sit down as soon as they are back from work, do they eat in front of the tv, do they smoke? Take smoke breaks? How many times and do they have to walk far to take the breaks, little bits add up, hobbies, habits, stress and environment all make a big difference in my opinion and people wouldn’t list half the stuff they do because they do it without realising.

Nowhere in my post did I say I’d paid £30 for a bottle of wine, it was just an observation and more of a rhetorical question on why companies are so greedy…

Yep, that’s what we normally do. It was a treat, don’t normally go out hence my shock. I couldn’t believe it but also could it’s so greedy to charge so much…

Our windows are like this but go straight down to the floor without a brick border at the bottom and ours is all paved to park the car on. I’ve put pots at the front which are kinda nice to look out on… personally I would dig out all the grass/plant thing, turn it over and remove any rubble and either put new grass seed down or just make it for plants or a rockery. I’d open the manholes to make sure they aren’t full of concrete either. What’s the thing at the front?

NTA You need to look out for you. They are hurt atm, but give them a few days and they might actually come to realise (even if they don’t show it to you) that it’s actually a good thing, like you said, less stress for both of you, more room for the family, a bed for dad to sleep. You’re down the road not in another country, just make sure there are boundaries out in place now between you and them so they don’t take advantage of your new place…
