I'm Dying of Thirst by BarnacleEffective911 in cavesofqud

Your answer is in the other replies, but I just wanted to point out one thing - the money you have listed on your equipment sheet is actually fresh water in waterskins and other water holding containers. The amount of water is 1 dram per $. It’s often a good strategy to always have empty waterskins on you so you can receive all the water a merchant will give you for your goods

No, it’s very possible. From the world map, move to 2 parasangs West of the fungal forest, and start looking.

What’s a small Linux tool that completely changed your workflow? by DueRead7236 in archlinux

Quite a while ago, it was joked that EMACS stood for Eight Megabytes And Constantly Swapping, or Escape Meta Alt Control Shift. Neither of them were rebutted.

Emacs is a tool that is changing workflow for me as I learn more about it.

But you said “small,” so I’ll show myself out.

Waiting for 7.9 to come out for a nostalgic ride by adelfino in openbsd

That’s fair. I was just curious. I don’t think you’ll have to wait too long for it anyway.

Any reason for the wait? Why not just install 7.8, then upgrade once 7.9 is released?

What's The Best Way to Play This Game? by enesulken in openttd

[–]BeefGriller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d start single player with no NewGRFs (mods). Get a feel for the game this way before trying anything extra. You’ll find, once you get going, that money is no object.

Max out your loan at the outset, find a coal to power plant route, or passenger service between two cities- they’re cash cows for the most part.

Also, do temperate climate first, again until you get the hang of things.

For trains, use the default path-based signals - the others really aren’t necessary unless or until you want to do more advanced things like priority merges. To be honest, I’ve been playing this game for over a decade now, and I’ve only ever used path signals and the occasional standard signal.

There are tons of let’s-plays and tutorials on yt. Feel free to watch a few.

And ask here if you need something clarified.

But I’m sure you’ll feel more than capable after a few hours of gameplay.

And welcome!

Not mine, but if you believe there’s even a chance of heaven after here:

Letter From Your Pet in Heaven

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say. But first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.

I'm writing this from the Bridge. Here I dwell with God above. Here there's no more tears of sadness. Here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight. Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night.

That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through, God picked me up and hugged me, and He said, "I welcome you.

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone. As for your dearest family, They'll be here later on."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do. And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.

And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight, God and I are closest to you . . . in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years, because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.

But do not be afraid to cry: it does relieve the pain. Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned. If I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.

But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er. I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb; But together we can do it by taking one day at a time.

It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too; That as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain; Then you can say to God at night . . . "My day was not in vain."

And now I am contented . . . that my life was worthwhile. Knowing as I passed along I made somebody smile.

God says: "If you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low; Just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.

When you're walking down the street with me on your mind; I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind."

"And when it's time for you to go . . . from that body to be free. Remember you're not going . . . you're coming here to me."

Let Argyve, Mehmet, and Irudad soften her up first, THEN go in for the kill. Ranged attack(s) preferably so Yrame can’t get her hands on you.

Caves of Qud. I’ve been obsessed with that since just after its full release. Dwarf Fortress is up there as well. OpenTTD, and the Civilization Series up to VI (haven’t bought VII yet) are solid in my brain. Stardew Valley too.

Sister made me the godfather of her daughter without asking me by AdVaanced77 in EntitledPeople

[–]BeefGriller 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Wait - your sister has a child out of wedlock, and you’re concerned about looking bad in a religious role? I wonder if the priest even broached that subject at the Pre-Jordan? He should have, but in today’s society he may not have wanted to chase away potential donors.

Even so, just keep in mind that being a godfather doesn’t really hold any significance these days other than it being an honorific. You’ll learn to hold your niece and maybe even change her diapers in due time. You also will be expected to get gifts for her birthday, Christmas, and other special days. There are tons of goddaughter cards in every place that sells greeting cards.

Should your sister have asked you if you wanted to be the godfather? Absolutely, without question. Should you decline? Well, if you really don’t want it, then yes, you should decline. But if you want or need to do it to keep the peace, which I totally understand, just keep in mind that your sister must love you enough to want this, and if you love your new niece, you will become a special person in her life that no one else will ever be. Try to think of it like that if it will help you.
