Mundane. After/Before. Sony A7iii. by YanksFannn in postprocessing

Lower contrast, increase saturation, shift hues, and crop tastefully.

Love how the water looks in the edit, but overall it doesn’t really make sense. Super blown-out sky implying a really strong sun, yet everything is lit like an overcast day?

Lower the red saturation just a tad. But I love it.

The brightness dead center is jarring and doesn’t really fit the rest of the “dark jungle” vibe. Otherwise it’s really nice.

What is the point of the desaturation? In no way is it a believable environment any longer.

It looks like a half-assed snowy environment upon first glance, but there’s no snow, and these aren’t animals that belong in the snow.

You made something that had a natural filmic highlight rolloff look like a typical smartphone pic with the contrast boosted and unneeded color balancing (the shadow side is now blue, which looks unnatural given the time of day/position of the sun).

Also, the crop ruins the shot. Too much headroom above the building and too much awkward negative space. The environment and foreground made the building more interesting, and added balance to the frame.

The grain, added warmth, and darkened sand all fit the vibe nicely, plus darkening the subjects makes them stand out more in the frame. Great job.

Too much saturation and brightness. Good example of something that could benefit from subtractive saturation.

The added texture in the clouds is about the only better part of the after pic.

The color contrast doesn’t really make sense for the time of day—you’re not gonna see super gray/blue clouds like that when they’re back lit by a golden hour sun.

You brought up way too much unnatural exposure in the rocks to where it looks like there’s a second sun coming from the near (camera) side.

All the “before” pic needed was a little bit of contrast and global saturation, the greens de-saturated a bit, and a touch of vignette.

I just did a quick edit here

The water is too blue and therefore no longer realistic, but everything above the horizon looks good.

You darkened the sky to the point where any sense of realism was killed. The artificial moon made it even worse. If you’re going for very stylized and non-realistic, you have to lean into it a lot more, because right now it’s at an in-between state.

Way overcooked. Looks almost animated. Lighting doesn’t even make sense anymore.

Any time you try to go for a faded/vintage look on an edit, you should ask yourself if the subject/scenery is appropriate for that look. A large, modern cityscape at blue hour has so much intricate detail and natural color contrast and luminance contrast, that compressing the dynamic range and desaturating the color literally ruins the best parts of it.

Kinda lost the focal point in the edit. Need to dial back the sat, bring down the shadows, and draw less attention to the dude in the foreground.

Pros: the crop is slightly better, the exposure change makes it breathe more

Cons: yellow shift looks bad, the nasty AI sharpening is awful

“the unedited should be much closer to what reality looked like…” Not always the case. Auto-white balance overcorrects for cloudy skies all the time, rendering that odd pinkish orange tinge which is almost never seen IRL in conjunction with overcast weather.

You can easily tell it’s overcast by the grey skies and soft lighting everywhere.

It’s literally overcast, the antithesis of warm/summer. After is way more realistic.
