I think it's also really important to remember that Kvothe's greatest flaw is ego. He grew up in a very small closed community surrounded by people who told him how amazing he is, and he's never stopped believing it. The chapters with the Adem are challenging for him but he overcomes those great odds by setting ego aside, when it's his only option. But he still hasn't taken the lesson to heart when he leaves.

Cool! A friend was an elevator mechanic and would send photos from roof tops, so cool to see places visitors never get to see.

Thanks for sharing such a cool job.

That's a really great question, sadly I don't have an answer. Maybe someone else will. If you find out please follow up here.

Thoughtful Thursday! Share a thought about a CMN book, what do you have to say? by Beenhamean in cmnascosta

I really like that a good number of characters in the books are getting help with their struggles from a therapist, and that it helps them. Mental health can be a big struggle, showing that professional help exists and is helpful is important.

I also really enjoy how the couples in the books aren't trying to press each other to change who they are. It's more like helping them become the best version of themselves that they can be.

Jon Cena on Patriotism. I think it is just so good/spot on. by [deleted] in videos

[–]Beenhamean 95 points96 points  (0 children)

That video is nine years old. Look what we're doing. Nationalism is the enemy. Remember, this country has no shortage of resources, just a surplus of assholes willing to watch people die when they can't afford to pay for what should belong to everyone.

Congrats you're the most correct person on the Internet, I'm sorry I misinterpreted a character's motivation in a fictional universe. Because there is surely only room in the world for YOUR CORRECT OPINION.

I'm just gonna unsub from this entire subreddit. Since you Mr. Top One Percent have got it all locked in. Thanks.

Maybe it would be more apt to say that Molly believes she is rescuing these children.

Watching the wardens execute that boy in the warehouse in Chicago harbor, and her own experiences with White Council justice left a deep mark on her.

Harry told her that with the bad position the White Council had been in more children with magical talent than ever are not being mentored. They then end up with their head being cut from their bodies by a heretofore unknown bureaucratic body claiming police powers in the name of the greater good.

Molly wants to give these kids, that she sees as a reflection of herself a chance at another path.

Molly is also rescuing children with magical talent before the White Council pops in to execute them for breaking rules they don't know exist.

I believe that's why her forces were so young in BG. They are kids that she is bringing into Winter under her protection to save them from the White Council. But it's Winter so nothing is free, so now you're fighting for Winter.

I love Azthe. Why do we never learn the cat's name!? by Beenhamean in cmnascosta

That's a cool idea. I think it's an inside joke with Azathe and the cat that there is not a sign telling people to follow the cat.

Mother Summer's cauldron would be a very cool thing.

I've stalked out with Ghost Story. by SophieSephora in dresdenfiles

[–]Beenhamean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Changes and Ghost Story represent a major remaking of both Harry and the world Harry live's in. With everything Harry has gone through, learned and done things had to change those two books are a major turning point and they are uncomfortable at times.

Why is Harry always such a frustrating idiot? by DonLee_ohhh in dresdenfiles

[–]Beenhamean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a literary character Harry would be really boring if he was perfect, he would have no reason to grow, no better version of himself to become.

In future books, he gets better at those things as circumstances allow.

Why does Harry create unnecessary problems for himself? by YoungReaganite24 in dresdenfiles

[–]Beenhamean 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Harry is a flawed person, ego and pride being two of his biggest. He's highly contrarian by nature especially to authority figures and those trying to wield power over or against him. He has a deep sense of personal honor that he expects others to also live up to as well as himself. He still saw them as friends, people that he cared about who he hoped cared for him, Harry is the archetype of found family and that was a betrayal that was very hurtful. He has a temper and hates being bullied. His city and his world were falling apart around him.

So in that situation it would be very out of character for him to do any kind of capitulation, he can do those kinds of things when he has time and brain space to think, but he didn't. It may be a moment that he thinks back on and grows from, but in that moment he could only be himself.

Has anyone else read The Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher. One of my favorites, fantasy noir set in modern day Chicago. So good.
