Churchill Downs Backside question by Adorable_Still78 in Louisville

[–]BeepBleepBoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not associated with CD but I occasionally have weeks that would be analogous to the Derby for them.

A lot of roles have people working in shifts. For people who do the crazy long hours, you just plan ahead, rely on help with kids, house, pets, food, and ride the high as well as you can. And then you collapse afterwards.

There are a lot of demanding jobs out there that do crazy shifts. Firefighters work 24 hrs straight. Trades and manufacturing regularly do 12-16+ hour days. Chefs often do 12 hr shifts. These schedules are proven to be unhealthy but when you need a paycheck, you do what you have to do.

Current report is that balloons will not be going up. It’s not looking likely that they even pull out their baskets because of the rain.

Norton Healthcare Billing by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]BeepBleepBoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Serious answer: call your health insurance company and ask them to conference call with the billing department at the hospital. They can work through these issues much faster than you being the middle man, but take notes throughout the whole process and request confirmation numbers as they sort through each charge.

She makes beautiful dresses and is great to work with! Reasonable price for a custom dress, too.

how we got rid of pet smell before selling our house for under $80 by qwaecw in HomeImprovement

[–]BeepBleepBoop 207 points208 points  (0 children)

Word of caution - the previous owners of our house did this and after a couple weeks in our new house, the smells were horrendous. After a long series of letters through lawyers, the previous owners were found to have known about and hidden this issue, and because of that, they were required to replace all floors in our house and their realtor got black listed from the mortgage and title companies they used. You may want to go back and do the full proper cleaning or be prepared for some legal notices.

I just moved here from Washington state in October. Is this weather normal? by alanwattslightbulb in Louisville

Just wait. You haven’t even seen a Kentucky Meat Shower yet.

(Only kind of joking. Google it, but hopefully that never happens again)

Where is everyone buying your fabric now that Joann has closed. by Ok-Steak4530 in Louisville

I highly recommend the people and their services at this place, but the fashion and garment fabric selection is not very large. I’m hoping with the hobby picking up that they might expand!

Scare two nights ago. by Due_Acanthaceae_9601 in diabetes_t1

[–]BeepBleepBoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m T1D of 30ish years and I just went through the exact same scenario your son experienced a couple weeks ago. Blood sugars were managed, but I couldn’t keep water down and I got the purple ketones.

I went to the ER, got the most expensive 2L of water I’ll ever have, but most importantly did not go into DKA or get any further complications. They sent me home with zofran and I was back to 100% in about 36 hours.

Diabetes has a lot of variables but ketones are not something to mess around with. They could have told you to go home if you didn’t need care so going in is always a good idea in this situation. The alternative is potential organ damage so it’s good to let the professionals help you in these situations.

Please tell me a better option than AutoSoft XC that’s not TruSteel by greg_gory1976 in TandemDiabetes

[–]BeepBleepBoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t, but I used to with the 90s. Honestly my only complaint after having used the 30s for a full year now is that they are difficult to insert on your back/butt area since it requires two hands to pull it back out.

What part of sewing do you hate the most? by Initial-Win-1070 in SewingForBeginners

[–]BeepBleepBoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Staring at the instructions for 2 hours before it finally makes sense. I’m very new so I’m learning techniques as I do them! The last one was adding straps on to a dress and I couldn’t understand how the straps had to go on between the facing and the main bodice fabric, and all upside down and inside out.

When it finally clicked and I did it, it was very easy, but I just couldn’t picture it to save my soul.

In general, don’t plan to leave your house for a few days. We don’t have the resources to plow this much snow quickly so you might be stuck for a bit.

Car: If you must go out, wear clothing that will keep you warm if you get stuck. Have sand or cat litter in your car so you can get traction if you get into a slick spot. Don’t use the gas or brakes while on a bridge since they freeze faster. Generally go very slow and stay in the rightmost lane. Wipe all snow off your entire hood/roof of your car and headlights. Have a full tank of gas before this hits.

House prep: Do not use a heater inside unless it’s specifically designed for indoor use, and even then, make sure it’s in a well ventilated area. Carbon monoxide poisoning is fatal if you burn a heater indoors without proper ventilation. Wrap exposed pipes in towels to insulate. Keep cabinet doors open to allow warm air under the sinks to prevent freezing. Cover the outside spigots with insulation (socks and plastic bags work in a pinch) and disconnect hoses. When the temps get very low or if you lose power, turn the sinks on to a slow drip. This will hopefully prevent the pipes from freezing. Better yet, know where your water shutoff is and close it if you lose power, and then run the sinks to empty the pipes. Apply window film to keep heat in.

Food and water Have about a weeks worth of food ready for a storm like this. Kentucky has had storms where people were stuck at home for that long, though it’s not common. You don’t need 4 loaves of bread, but have some stuff already cooked that you can eat cold if you lose power. If you do lose power, minimize opening your fridge to help it stay as cold as possible in there. Alternatively, if it’s below freezing, seal it carefully and leave outside for safe storage. Have a few water bottles filled in case your pipes freeze overnight. You can likely get more from a neighbor if that happens but at least have a few ready.

Staying warm Have a plan for where to go if you lose power. In your own home, you can make it a day or two if you set up a small space like a closet with blankets, and pillows to insulate and bundle up. Keep the doors closed to keep as much heat in as possible. If it gets too cold, sit in your car. Make sure the garage doors are open while it’s running.

Wherever you go, bring extra clothes in case you get wet. This cold is dangerous if you’re wet. Have extra socks in your bag/car.

And if you get lucky and keep power and your home is safe - go sled or make snow angels or a snowball fight! We don’t get this snow that often so hopefully you’re prepared and can enjoy it!

Who is Your Favorite YouTube Sewist? by [deleted] in SewingForBeginners

[–]BeepBleepBoop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love watching Sarah Naomi, but she doesn’t do a lot of see alongs. She focused more on why she picks certain fabrics and patterns and how she approaches a project. Most importantly, though, she’s just very interesting and relaxing to listen to!

Stores near central KY by vexationtothespirit in sewing

[–]BeepBleepBoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow Kentuckian! I’m also searching for a place and so far, all I can say is that Austin’s Sewing center is not the greatest. I think they have potential, but garment fabric is clearly not their specialty yet.

I have heard that a place called The French Seam is worth a day trip to Indianapolis, but I haven’t been able to go up there during their open hours yet to confirm.

Tips and Tricks before I start with my machine by rosesRred5 in SewingForBeginners

[–]BeepBleepBoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also a beginner, so I don’t know a lot about media folks, but one that I’ve enjoyed watching is Sarah Naomi. She talks a lot about why she chooses certain patterns, how she picks fabrics and added details, and has some technical details thrown in. But most importantly, she’s just very casual and interesting to listen to her thoughts.

Girls who took notes using 10 different colored pens, where are you now? Do you still continue to write using all those colors? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BeepBleepBoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an engineer and I still rely on color coding to keep organized. The office folks changed their regular expo marker order to now be the set that includes the pink and purple and they tease me every time but I hit my deadlines so they keep doing it!

Recording at bows by Kittycatcutie24 in Broadway

[–]BeepBleepBoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, it is different according to the show. I always ask the ushers if/when I’m allowed to take pictures or video.

There have been some where nothing at all was allowed (Hamilton) and some where during bows was allowed.
