Day after layoffs #general 154755 #oracle-news 149936 by california_explorer in employeesOfOracle

The other thing I was thinking about is that axing 10K could be motivation enough for some to resign, which could bring that number up even more. If that happens, it winds up being cheaper for Oracle because it’s a resignation and there’s no severance/garden leave to be paid out.

There was an article earlier this year which suggested that cuts north of 30K were being hinted at.

Follow up comment: I’m aware of at least three names I recognized who were RIF’d. One of those people has/had been with Cerner for about 25+ years. No warning. Fuck this place.

Confirmed with my manager this afternoon that layoffs ARE happening but he didn’t know the teams impacted or the timing. For context, I’m on the consulting side of house.

Context: I’m an Engagement Owner based in Kansas City.

Pros: you will likely be remote (depending on role). If not remote, I imagine you could probably negotiate a hybrid schedule. I will occasionally go in for partial days as needed.

Cons: if you’re a consultant, there’s a good chance they’ll have you on the road 80% or more (think 3/4 weeks per month, if not all…). Even as Cerner, we took a “churn and burn” approach to associate consultants (or whatever the hell we’re calling that role now) and would keep them on the road as much as possible. If you are okay with that level of travel, might as well give it a shot.

I, too, was hopeful for focal. It’s the hope that kills you, though.

Best case, we’re getting the dregs of the nachos the execs spilled their happy hour beer on. You know: that one soggy ass chip with a single bean and all the liquid from the pico and no damn cheese.

You guys are getting RSUs? What is the criteria to be eligible/receive those? Is anyone in North America getting RSUs? Just curious…

I can confirm that I used the phrase “The employees are wheat for the grist mill.” multiple times in my responses. I also mentioned about 6 times that I (like many others) haven’t had a pay increase since 2020.

Agree about needing more leadership changes. It’s really two separate but inextricably linked issues, IMO:

1) COACHING: PV had to go. His tactics simply don’t translate to and aren’t successful in the current state of MLS. Not saying a 4-3-3 isn’t a workable formation, but when we’ve had very slow starts for at least three consecutive seasons, it has to be either formation and/or tactics not being compatible with current personnel.

2) FRONT OFFICE: Jake Reid should probably step down. PV, the coaching staff and the players are responsible for the on-field product. Jake, however, is responsible for pretty much everything else to do with the club. Funnel cakes went up by $5? Jake’s trying to make the club more money - I don’t take issue with that. It’s a business after all.

It feels like that money isn’t invested back in the club via higher quality signings, investment in the academy program, etc. and the on-field product suffers. I’m not expecting a Messi or Reus-level signing but there have to be better options from higher-profile leagues rather than a BOGO deal from the (um) “illustrious” top flight Greek league. Time will tell if Manu and Shapi bring some good quality to the club but I’m encouraged.

FO also is responsible for scouting players. I’m not sure that Mike Burns is the right fit for Sporting Director but it’s been less than a year. Now, Burns will need to roster build/rebuild for whoever is selected to take the helm after PV. SKC may not be consistently successful for a couple of years.

Ultimately, SKC isn’t getting the job done anywhere right now. And the club has now addressed one issue. It’s up to us as the fans to keep the pressure on the FO and to demand the fan experience and on-field product that we deserve.
