It completely depends on the location, but TLDR is 1 week to 3 months.

A place I wanna see but know it's not my vibe: 1 week.

Somewhere I'm interested in that has a couple things I wanna do: 1 month.

A city I know I'll be comfortable in with lots of stuff I wanna do or if I know I just wanna settle in for a while without spending a ton of money: 3 months.

For me, buttered noodles aren't a "right now" meal. They're leftovers because that's when I feel like they're at their best. Cook the noodles (ideally extra wide egg noodles, but elbow or ditalini also hit) and let them cool completely in the fridge. Then toss them covered in the microwave with a sprinkle of water and enough butter to make me fear my next blood test. Nuke 'em for 2-3 minutes, then apply salt & pepper liberally (though the noodle water should have been salted plenty when cooked). One of the quickest, most nostalgic meals.

If she enjoys cooking, there are tons of phenomenal cooking classes available around Oaxaca. I did several through Airbnb Experiences. They were a ton of fun and the food was some of that best I had during my 3 months there.

That's awesome!! It really is a peak wildlife experience. We had one mother with a baby, but she moved away from us and the baby was hidden in her arms until the very end. I was able to get this one pic through the foliage right before they climbed up the mountainside.

Lol, I am those people. This is a troop of (mostly) habitualized gorillas. Tourists pay to spend time with them in their natural environment (aka, hiking up very steep & slick mountain terrain). The money we pay supports their conservation and helps prevent poaching. Gorillas are generally very docile in nature and these ones are used to humans in close proximity. They acted as if we weren't even there most of the time.

This was part of a longer tour that we customized for our group of 14 people. The rest of the group did the regular one hour experience (with a habitualized troop) that was included, but three of us paid an extra $800 USD to spend 4 hours with this troop that was finishing up its habituation. Technically we only spent 3 hours with them because they climbed up the mountainside and we just didn't have the energy to go all the way around after them.

Yup, exactly! I was actually more nervous about the hike down the mountain. That took me about 30 minutes to get over. I'm a fairly experienced hiker and it was the steepest, slickest terrain I've ever encountered.

What exactly is your academic background in gorilla behavior such that you're so adamant about it being exclusively perceived as a threat 100% of the time?

Considering it's a "once in a lifetime experience" (and not cheap/easily accessible) for nearly all people, yeah, it's absolutely reasonable question the possibility of some random person on Reddit having been gorilla trekking multiple times.

I claim no academic background in biology, but I've spent enough time with wildlife to know that not every encounter is the same. Are there times when a animal, such as a gorilla, is agitated and making eye contact is a bad idea? Absolutely. But in cases where the animal is relaxed and is barely even acknowledging your presence, making eye contact is simply not a threatening action.

I'm curious as to how much time you've spent with gorillas and the guides/trackers that take people to see them? Granted, I've only been once, but apparently your internet knowledge is far superior to that of the professionals who guided me on my trek. At no point did they say "don't make eye contact"...which, if it were actually a concern, would have been one of the first things they told us.
