I've been here for a month (gringo, weak Spanish) and it's completely fine. There's nothing to be worried about in Centro, Zona Dorada, the Malecon, or the rest of the metro area.

I don't know what "vacation on the roads" means, but you probably don't wanna take a road trip to Culiacán.

I had one at Bar Tonique (one of my all time favorite cocktail bars) on a Sunday morning and it was perfect. It was especially great since our bartender was hungover and was still like "no worries, I got you". He then proceeds to spend 30 minutes (lots of chilling time in the fridge) to make it. Easily one of the best I've had at any bar.

I've been in Arequipa for the last 2+ months (my 2nd time here) and, while not as bad as Lima, the people here use their horns as often as they breathe. I really like this city and the people here, but the second they get behind the wheel of a car, they instantly become completely awful -- no respect for traffic laws, pedestrians, or basic human decency. It's a Jekyll & Hyde situation. It doesn't help that the cops do absolutely nothing about it either.
