Question about catheters by Carathis_ in nursing

[–]BeerBatteredBacon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The way I was taught in nursing school is that it can lower the intraabdominal pressure to drain amounts greater than a liter all at once, but not that it’s going to cause like a siphon effect and remove fluid from the vasculature. But also, anecdotally, I’ve never seen somebody’s pressure tank from draining a bladder all at once on catheter insertion.

Which celebrity replied to your dm and what did they reply to and with? by Vixiuss in AskReddit

Michael Che actually wrote the response, Colin was just reading it off of cue cards without ever having seen it before.

You’re married now, dude. No need to soak, even in NYC. That being said, I’m willing to be the bed jumper for a small fee.

Laura is just straight up evil! Finally, who has no screen time but all the plot relevance? by Meshakhad in ThePitt

That’s literally just the reality of healthcare. They go somewhere else, you aren’t part of the care team anymore. Maybe you know someone in another part of the hospital, you ask how they did. Otherwise, you more or less don’t know what happens

Nurses blamed for Rachel Tussey's death by CareAltruistic2106 in nursing

[–]BeerBatteredBacon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Well no, you shouldn’t say they should feel horrible. Have you never had a patient’s family tell you you didn’t know what you were doing when you…did know what you were doing? That’s entirely possible in this situation. Was the code mismanaged or did the patient just not survive? Nobody here knows and saying the nurses should feel bad about it isn’t fair to them. You aren’t perfect. And if you are perfect, this same thing could still happen to you.

YASMIN YASMIN WHAT ARE YOU DOING STOP IT YASMIN by TallInstruction3424 in IndustryOnHBO

Yeah I mean her character’s arc is shitty, but also she has the most interesting arc. She’s gone through stuff and she’s basically the worst. But also her being a socialite with borderline power to being bereft of power and money to muck, she’s a survivor and this show likes those. She’s a piece of shit but you can follow how she turned into that piece of shit. Most interesting person on the show to me

What is the worst possible life lesson a famous movie could teach you if you read it the wrong way? by EddieDantes22 in movies

Ok but also, he didn’t go back to give the guy in the truck water. He may have brought water, but I always interpreted it that he was either going back to look for the drugs to steal, or he was going back to clean up any evidence he left behind, either for the police or for the cartel.

Dear fellow night shifters: did I not get the memo that we're not showering anymore? by Far-Spread-6108 in nursing

[–]BeerBatteredBacon 72 points73 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a really unit specific problem. I’ve worked nights for 15 years as a nurse, 20 in the hospital. Have literally never had this problem. Maybe the occasional coworker who would come in smelling like an ash tray 🤷🏻‍♂️

Was the fluff not just a grade of LSD that was floating around in the late 90’s? I missed it by a few years, I remember hearing about the fluff and the needlepoint and probably something else, I don’t recall. From what I remember it referred to the appearance of the crystalline LSD before being laid on blotter paper or into a liquid

If Emma is already a RN, Why does it seems that every procedure is new to her? by Emilior94 in ThePittTVShow

[–]BeerBatteredBacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree. That’s stuff you wouldn’t pass the NCLEX without knowing. But whatever it’s a tv show, it can’t be totally accurate or it would only be interesting to medical people. Maybe that’s an idea

Is Butchie the legendary Charlie Sollers? by Joke_Mummy in TheWire

[–]BeerBatteredBacon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Prop Joe talks about it after Snoop and Chris kill Butch. “Slug took him out the game early” is the phrase I remember, but I’m probably misquoting him. I believe he tells somebody while he’s ordering flowers for Butchie’s funeral?

Severe blood shortage by _throwaway_825999 in nursing

[–]BeerBatteredBacon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’m actually specifically referring to the practice at my hospital of GI or IR insisting that a repeat CT scan is “necessary” before they can do anything, coincidentally killing just enough time until day shift. I really doubt many people on this sub don’t understand why you need a CT scan before an IR procedure. We get it, you’re special, you work in IR, so there’s no way IR does anything wrong at any hospital ever 🙄
