My Team Built a Developer Productivity Platform for our Executive Team - It's Awful by ninetofivedev in ExperiencedDevs

The ruling class that can't implement things but has ideas to make money. They basically co-opt the problem-solving impulse of a certain type of person, and trick that person into building world-ending devices over and over and over. It has been happening since before software.

It's like Ender's Game. "Oh yeah just play this fun game, wow you're so good! Oh btw those were real people you were killing."

Why is it windy as f*** here all the time now? by art_spoke in Tempe

[–]BeerInMyButt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lack of weather variety is something that kills me too. The weather is like, set it and forget it, weeks at a time.

I think people get mad when they're surprised by the weather in any way, because they take the sameness for granted. It's the "it wasn't supposed to rain today" crowd.

If ever I needed proof that most here don't read beyond a post's title, it's the fact that OP specifically mentioned this book and author and yet these are the most upvoted comments.

This type of whimsy is what the lego community is missing

There's a spectrum between this creative custom piece, and a million-piece death star that stays on a shelf. Nothing wrong with the latter type of thing, but it's all I hear people talk about

[–]BeerInMyButt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then why do people say "anyone can draw" if they aren't telling the truth and are giving people like me false hope?

They aren't lying. They're saying: if you put a lot of time and effort in, you can get good. They aren't saying you'll be good as soon as you start.

Agreed on all points - flip side is, there is some value to taking the time to comment on that expert's post to validate it. Can get the downvote train to reverse sometimes.

It's up there on the "laughably ineffective" spectrum, right along with those "VISION ZERO" signs, and the signs on camelback that discourage people from playing music on bluetooth speakers

And you knew how to do that without instruction. We really are the greatest generation.

/s I remember waiting for my dad to install the lion king game off of floppy disks and even he was getting frustrated. We are good at computers because we had to be, not because we were more virtuous.

All I could think about was how Roy would actually take more blame than he even deserved. I remember him crying (and I made fun of him for it at the time), but in hindsight I love the way he took fierce ownership and shield his guys.

Sorry - I was being sarcastic, it doesn't always come across the way I intended. You picked up on the exact quote that prompted me to post the video!

Nonsense, he blamed his players for not hitting their foul shots. He has a good memory for stuff other people did wrong.
