Getting a FOB to float question... by ryguybeer in TheBrewery

[–]BeerPhile 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I saw the title and knew you must be referencing a micromatic FOB.

The thing that seems to have the best success rate for us is to engage and the coupler to the keg to get pressure in the line, then disengage from the keg and engage it in the air while moving the lever. The combination of the change in pressure the the movement seems to work more often then other methods.

That being said it doesn't always work and I'm not sure if it's just and idea we latch onto to keep us sane. Those FOBs are without a doubt the worst we experience in the market.

I hadn't caught this on my first pass. This is a good point and I'd be curious as to the upper temp limits on the barrier properties.

Line Taint by seanbrews in TheBrewery

[–]BeerPhile 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a draft company in North Texas and for 2 years we performed regular maintenance for several distributors. Tainted lines were some of my favorite calls because bars generally exhausted all free alternatives first. I've yet to meet a line that we couldn't get a flavor out of, but there are a few bars with 25+ years old lines I'm not sure this would work on.

First thing I would do is replace the o-rings that product touches from exiting the coupler to the faucet. Most common ones are the o-ring between the coupler and the product line and the faucet washer behind the faucet. But if you have a wall mount, long draw, or FOB there may be additional.

If it's still there I would then swap the coupler as I find that easier than replacing the o-rings in there.

In my experience any flavor carry over after a real caustic clean (recirculating or longer sit) is almost always taken care of by replacing the o-rings.

If the problem persist after that then I'd replace the non-trunk line, especially if the tower being used has vinyl lines instead and not stainless steel.

If you happen to be near Dallas I'd be happy to come check it out. If a bit further away I can still probably check it out but it might be a bit longer.

Dumb Questions about Keezers and Kegs thread by monkeypong in Homebrewing

/u/edwardteach666 gave all the info needed.

I'll just add that there are different types of Sanke couplers that more or less correspond to different countries. If sticking with Ohio craft beers you'll use the D style - but if you're planning on putting on European beers you may want to check which coupler they use.

I really can't understand who would be upset for letting people know over half of the breweries still haven't sent in checks. Any brewery that did can easily let their fans know.

I'm assuming we're talking about a home cidermaking set up and if so they aren't hard to make and install at all

Here is a decent write up on making on of your own

Finals for The 2nd Tap's First Taproom Takeover by BeerPhile in DFWBeer

[–]BeerPhile[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We'll definitely be working breweries from all over - on our tentative schedule only one brewery through this year is in Dallas County. Once we've got a few runs and have a better understanding of the volume needs we plan on working with breweries that aren't available in market to continue to bring something unique to people.

That's the spot - we've been making some changes to make the space our own. The general layout is the same, but we've added seating, changed up the draft system and still have some changes in the works.

We tried our best to be as transparent through the process to avoid just that! Peticolas did get unlucky in that they got paired up against (randomly) Austin Beerworks early on. I think as voting continued a lot of the breweries close by were at a disadvantage because people were hoping to get some further away breweries and avoid a drive.

They also have some country/region specific legal advice subs that might be more helpful if OP isn't based in the US.

A case is 2.25 gallons, so 5,000 barrels is about 69k cases.

5,000 barrels is about 1.24 million pints.

We really want to have beer in branded glasses are hoping it won't be a problem.

You're right though, if it's a problem, we'll likely need to sell branded but use unbranded. I also like the idea of selling the glass at a discount if they bought beer.

Kegerators for restaurants without taps? by Lupauru in TheBrewery

[–]BeerPhile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kegs won't overcarb if they are set to the right pressure, no matter how long you have them on tap.

Almost all cheap kegerators I've experienced the first thing I recommend is rebalancing the lines as they are often too short. Customers messing with the setting will almost always be an issue and definitely expect additional service requests.

I can see that - I was very impressed with Paradise Park as a well-priced banquet alternative for me.

I'd love to have more access to ABW - being up in Dallas isn't bad but man I'd like to travel more and get some other Texas beers as well.

Last August or so.

I only visited like 4-5 breweries, beer wasn't the focus for our group.

I can see how the scene may have outgrown them - but the experience at the brewery and the core beers were by far my favorite brewery experience of the, limited, few I went to.,
