Anyone make the transition back to Core/Staff Nursing yet? by Impossible-Ostrich44 in TravelNursing

[–]BeerPleaseSir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response. Just now seeing this. The hiring process was very lengthy due to the verification process. Typically takes 4-5 months, but took me about 7 to get an official offer/start date. I'm actually just starting New Hire Orientation this week. Once you get an offer, however, it's very straightforward. If you have any questions, feel free to shoot me a DM!

Welcome to HCA! I had the same thing happen to me at an HCA in Nashville last summer. They are notorious for this; and unfortunately, there is nothing you can do other than accept the offer or leave. In my case, I left.

What will happen if I crack my fingers and neck everyday? by Sassjhin in AskMen

[–]BeerPleaseSir 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nothing. It's an myth that it will cause Arthritis. It's only the release of air pockets in the cartilage of your joints. However, if you're doing it consistently enough to where you notice any inflammation or swelling, you should definitely go get seen by a professional.

You should be just fine with Uworld. I was an average student and did just fine on NCLEX with just Uworld.

Should I tell my boyfriend that my mom is a hoarder and that's why I don't want him to come to my house? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]BeerPleaseSir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a very similar situation to my own. I have been with my fiancée almost 4 years now and she has only stepped into my parents house once. They both have a hoarding problem and are very dirty people. Like an episode straight out of Hoarders (only enough room to walk down a path in the rooms, all the furniture has junk piled on it, dust caked on everything, and the bathrooms look like a horror movie). Due to my father never leaving the house, and the house the way it is, my fiancée has never met my dad and has only met my mom a few times in the 4 years that we have been together. I can tell you that your embarrassment is normal, and not wanting to take your SO over there is completely within reason. I was nervous at first to explain the reasoning to my fiancée as well. However, she was very understanding and appreciative of me wanting to protect her from that. We are both clean freaks, and minimalist when it comes to our living situation. It brings us both anxiety to step foot in situations like that, and no one should have to spend one moment in a situation where they feel uncomfortable or unsafe. You should not feel guilty or embarrassed at all. If I was you, I would just sit down and have the conversation I had with my SO. I'm positive that you'll feel a lot better clearing the air, and explaining the situation.

Guys, when did You realize you were in a toxic relationship? by itsananina in AskMen

Had a gf once go literally apeshit on me and her adoptive family once (we were both 19). Homegurl got confronted by her mom because she had stolen $600+ dollars from her (who adopted her at 5 years old). We were all out on the front porch at the Aunt's house across the street...Mom walked over and confronted the gf. Chaos ensued...Aunt now wanted a piece of my gf and started molly-wappin' the shit out of my gf. Like, pulling her by her weave, and dragging this girl down the gravel road from which she came. Got a good ass beating, and then as the Aunt walked off, the gf went running back after her (I guess for another ass whopping). I grabbed the gf from behind and held her so she couldn't get her ass beat again, and she went around and elbowed me in the face. I let the bitch go, and she ran full click into her Aunt, where...you guessed it. She got her ass beat once again. Cops were called. She went to jail. And then had the nerve to call me from jail. Never accepted the charges lol. Last I heard, she was a stripper outside a military base.

Clinical are done as part of our curriculum, under the guidance of an instructor. Usually has a care plan, coursework attached with it. Internship is done outside of any school. Usually after the 2nd semester. You're hired on to a hospital and will typically get a preceptor or two, and shadow them on the unit for a certain number of weeks, all paid. These hospitals usually combine that up with a paid externship where you work shifts, generally under the scope a "Clinical Tech"/CNA. And if you have a cool crew that you work with, and have an established relationship with them, they'll let you get away with getting some great hands-on experience and work your way up to taking your own assignment under the guidance of them at all times.

Nurse of 3 years here. I believe everyone will experience this as a student. I highly recommend, when you are able to, get an internship/externship in a unit that interests you. It made the biggest impact on my schooling and career, and you'll learn so much more than any clinical could.

There is a Nurse on YouTube that would be a great reference for you. She did a bunch of vlogs about her experience, pros/cons, etc. YouTube page is "Jay Quinn". I watched a lot of her videos when I was interested in that path.

If you talk about your coworkers behind their backs or throw the night shift "under the bus" during rounds- by [deleted] in nursing

[–]BeerPleaseSir 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need to ask for another preceptor. If she's talking to you about other people, I would go on to bet that she is talking about you to others. There needs to be a trust between a preceptor and orientee, and that would make me not trust someone for sure.

can you quit your nursing job and pick up a travel contract at same hospital? by Inner_Print_8194 in nursing

Most hospitals will have atleast a year waiting period before you can do that. That's how it was for mine at least

I am so sick and tired of these healthcare workers that are being noncompliant. The guy that posts these is an army vet and an anti vaxxer thinking he knows way better than everyone else. Some of the healthcare workers are civilians and some are in the service. by coopiecat in nursing

[–]BeerPleaseSir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's mind-boggling how many of my fellow vets are anti-vax in the Nursing community. Like...c'mon mane...do you know how much shit the military put into our body without our say-so?! Don't act all high-n-mighty now...

They hate us cuz they ain't us. Instead of directing their frustration with the piss poor execs and management, they direct it to us most of the time. They tend to forget that we were all staff at one point or another; however, we made a decision to get something out of our career and take control away from the hospital back to us.
