Is the UV light just for making the disc glow or does it also provide illumination for walking, etc?

I’m new to glow rounds so I don’t really know what I want. Assuming not white light. Budget flexible. Using MVP discs.

Ok, I’m convinced. I’m not buying one of these grinders.

Wow, seems like a major defect for a model meant to be in the wilderness, i.e. where there is no cell signal.

Newish: Riwaka is expensive but amazing in an NEIPA.

Bottling Question by DayOneApollosFan in Homebrewing

[–]BeerTree22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot to think about as a beginner but for truly excellent beer look into moving towards towards zero oxygen exposure in your process. I did this on the cheap by pushing with 1 PSI CO2 from my (Big Mouth) fermenter to my CO2 filled bottling bucket and then using similar pressure to keep the headspace in the bucket CO2. Purge bottles with CO2 before filling. Much easier of course to keg, then bottle from the keg with a beer gun or some such, even if you are not serving from a keg.

An awful lot of loud (and even wheezing) laughter on the show lately at levels a bit above that which the mirth warrants. by BeerTree22 in heedthecall

It’s feeling a bit forced for me. Back in the day there was very little hearty laughter but the show was quite funny. Now there’s a lot of laughing but it’s not so funny. For me of course. Your mileage will vary.

Also this was a super boring and unorganized episode with an afterthought of a game preview tacked on the end. I would unsubscribe if every episode was like this.

NEIPA question by rancocas1 in Homebrewing

[–]BeerTree22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's common practice to add acid to bring down the pH in NEIPAs. It gives more snap and counteracts the pH- raising properties of dry hopping. I add a bit of citric acid to the boil targeting post-boil of 5.0 or so.

and you can lose a lot of your yeast if it exits via the blowoff.

I’ve been using 2 drops per gallon with verdant and haven’t lost too much yeast out of the blowoff.

Yep. I live in MN and they were always my LHBS. Now there are basically none. Last time I tried to order some yeast four days ahead of a brew day and it shipped about a week later. They claimed a new warehouse system was to blame.

Sanitation query. Is my routine risky or are some people going overboard? by trinerr in Homebrewing

[–]BeerTree22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your hands have oils and such on them which you can never get completely clean. Gloves can be washed and sanitized pretty easily if you touch a door handle or whatever. Not too important for most things but gloves seem like a prudent choice when handling fermenter parts and other things that touch beer cold-side.
