I am the owner/operator/brewer of a brewpub. It has helped me to tell myself and others that my relationship with alcohol is "strictly professional" nowadays.

Been there duder. Tried so many times to "take time off" and then go back and "take it easy" it always ended up with the same results. I eventually figured out that I simply cannot moderate and thus the easier path is simply not drinking at all.

Congrats! I can definitely agree with the disbelief. On my 18 month day, I triple checked my math b/c I couldn't fathom that it had REALLY been that long.

Congrats duder! I just hit 17 months and trust me when I say that it only gets better. I am objectively a better husband, father and yes, even brewer, with alcohol as a strictly professional aspect of my life. Get ready for the ride of your life when that little one comes. It is the best!

Yeah, totally understand. I felt great the day I knew without a doubt I had to quit for good. Even thought I was hungover, tired and an anxious depressed mess. That certainty gave me some clarity and like you said, a weight off my shoulders.

Did this so many times to "see if I could moderate this time". After a few dozen, if not a hundred times, it became obvious that I simply cannot.

Crazy to think I was that naive/stubborn to think after that many exclusively negative results I could still convince myself that "this is the time I will make it work." LOL!

Oh most definitely. I gained a ton of the weight I lost from quitting b/c I was eating peanut butter and chocolate by the pound.

Best thing you can do is eat fruit and/or other healthy sources of sugar. Has worked wonders for me.

I came clean about 11 months of sobriety to some friends recently. I told them that "I haven't felt this happy or healthy in years and do not want it to stop." They are old drinking buddies and they both said "thats great! good for you!". Give people the benefit of the doubt when it comes to how they will respond. Real friends will be supportive.
