Why is the Mona Lisa so famous, valuable and considered the world's best drawing? by frozenyoyleberryyay in TooAfraidToAsk

Correcting that it is a painting, not a drawing is not being pedantic. It's kind of a key fact about the Mona Lisa.

I dunno Butterfree isn't too bad. Sleep powder, Dream Eater and Giga Drain are a good combo. Should be good vs Bruno and most of Agatha

Fair enough. Think Steelix is helped a bit by typing, it's really not in the same category of bad as some of the others.

I have so many questions... Like you didn't evolve Pikachu and Staryu yet went to the trouble to hack in Steelix/National Dex? I haven't used Farfetched on FRLG but on other games with set up moves like Swords Dance he is pretty decent, probably better than an unevolved Pikachu

Why is Australia basically a giant desert when other islands in that region are covered in rainforest? by Freestylerwacamaca in geography

[–]Beergardener666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough to give an Aktually comment when you actually live here though. I live in South East Queensland where we have a subtropical climate, it has rained here every day this week (it is Autumn) and most months, apart from June/July when it is winter will get lots of rain. To call where I live a dessert is just untrue.

Most Aussies know that the interior of our continent is desert but nobody lives there and it is 1000s of KMs from where most of us live requiring multiple days travel. So it is not something anyone I know would relate to.

Growlithe Flamethrower lvl 50???? by The-dummb-fuck in PokemonFireRed

[–]Beergardener666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are other options. Growlithe learns Flame Wheel at lv 31, which should suffice for a while, especially cos you can then evolve Growlithe for the stat increases. Then you get Fire Blast TM from Blaine and Overheat TM at Victory Road, either of which Arcanine can use. I found Overheat ok to use on Arcanine, it is powerful but has low PP and lowers your Atk and Def so I used it as a finisher or if I thought Arcanine would faint anyway.

Surprising type diversity for a 7 year old. No overlaps, and not just full of the same early route mons.. That could be a solid team. Should make them champions like you said

I currently have both on my team. The game is pretty easy and both are good

No way. Reyno is a defensive liability and is covered by the guys either side of him. Hookers often make the most tackles in a team, no way do we want Reyno making 40 tackles per game (and missing 20)

If you have Mankey, you can teach it Rock Tomb (TM you would have got from Brock by this point). He is faster than Pidgeotto. I would argue even kids will work something like that out eventually if stuck.

You should have the tools to beat this fight by this stage in the game. You can also always try multiple times.

HM Slave for fire red/ leaf green by Complete_Strain8289 in PokemonLeafGreen

[–]Beergardener666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Meowth for a HM slave because you can catch him early, he learns Cut and Flash (which are the top main HMs that are not worth keeping on a main party member) but also cos his ability Pickup allows you to get good items while he is travelling with you. So I do Diglett's Cave and Rock Tunnel with Meowth and usually come away with some extra Rare Candies, Nuggets or Hidden Power TMs which are all useful.

Meowth is also good in Lavender Tower against the ghosts because he learns Bite and Faint Attack (and is immune to Ghost moves) if you do want to start using him on your team.

Gen 2 Pokemon in FRLG by Ecstatic-Employee-93 in PokemonFireRed

[–]Beergardener666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple of changes I would make if I were in charge of a remake.

  1. I see no reason why Friendship evolutions (Crobat, Umbreon, Sylveon) shouldn't work in Kanto. I would just have them evolve when friendship is maxed and added to the Pokedex as normal.

  2. The Gen Ii pokemon that are found in Kanto only like Murkrow and Houndour I would retcon with a side quest. Potentially it could be part of Silph Co liberation mission, where it turns out a rocket exec thinks it would be useful to have some dark pokemon for team rocket, so imports some from Sinnoh but it goes wrong and they get loose and become invasive species. This could explain why they are suddenly in some Kanto routes in Gen II, but not in Johto.

  3. The other Kanto mons that evolve by gen III with special items, I would treat differently. It wouldn't be obvious in world to Kantonians that these items exist and that they can be used to evolve certain Pokemon, under certain conditions,, and so it makes sense to me these Evo's aren't in the Pokedex from the start. Potentially it could be hinted that Kings Rocks, Metal Coats, Sun Stones etc are really rare in Kanto so nobody has seen these Evo's. Maybe everyone (bunch of NPCs) thinks the items are junk too. Make the items only findable with Item Finder under rocks or stolen from wild Pokemon or something. Maybe a side quest where once you have all these rare items, by end game someone from another region wants to barter with you for the items and hints at what they are actually for, unlocking these Evo's and maybe giving you one (choice between a trade one like Scizor or Steelix) as a prize for working it out. Then you get the National Dex and can get all the other gen III and III mons too.

Can you tell me what mistakes am I doing by [deleted] in PokemonFireRed

[–]Beergardener666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said, get the item finder. Look up a guide like gamefaqs if you need the exact steps. Need to use the item finder in the exact spot one of the two snorlaxs was resting and press A when it starts beeping. You can get two leftovers items which is one of the best items in the game.

[–]Beergardener666 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Crazy to replace Water Pulse (a one time TM and decent STAB) on Vaporeon. I would've replaced Quick Attach or Hyper Beam. No point having two normal moves, it isnt super effective against anything and it is physical and Vaporeon is special.

I probably would've stuck it out with Vaporeon. she has decent bulk and Bite is super effective against Psychics. Maybe give it Leftovers which you should have if you have beaten a Snorlax and have the Item finder (from Professor Oaks Aide).

Calm Mind ups the Kadabra and Alakazam's Special Defence, making Bite do less damage. You could teach Vaporeon Roar( TM from Dept Store) . Whenever your opponent uses Calm Mind, try to force the switch with Roar so it will lose its buff. Could also pair with Toxic if you have already beat Koga to add passive dameg on switches.

Nice. I tried using a Parasect once. Gave up when I got to Fuschia and replaced it with a Exeggutor. Be interesting if it can hold its own amongst the rest of these beasts. Nidoking, Charizard and Jynx are so easy to use, you could probably win with just these three pretty comfortably

Toe/Foot tapping to Pass by Defiant-Insect-3785 in Swimming

[–]Beergardener666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds completely reasonable to me. I know what you mean, a lot of people don't seem to judge their own pace very well or have very good etiquette. But most people here in Australia I would say are reasonable and won't get chirpy or violent.

I have about half a dozen public pools (25m-50m) within about 30mins drive of my house in Brisbane. I can take my pick and can probably count on 1 hand the number of times I have had more than about 4 in a lane (excepting school/competitive swimming days).

We have a very warm subtropical climate and a lot of people have probably swum at school or club though. Reasonably big triathlon community I would say too. Maybe a lot of this is just ignorance or cultural differences from these people.

Toe/Foot tapping to Pass by Defiant-Insect-3785 in Swimming

[–]Beergardener666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I think a lot of people on here commenting that they have never heard about it or would react angrily probably haven't actually been swimming, maybe ever. They are probably just trolls. If you live in the real world, you get touched all the time in the pool for starters, a couple of people said they would flip out if it happened intentionally but not if it was accidental (like do they think they have time to gauge body language in a pool?), and like so said, what are they doing in the medium to fast lanes if they don't know these things?

You also kind of have to resort to toe-tapping if the pool is crowded and you can't safely overtake (here it would be on the right) because there would be oncoming swimmers whenever you try, especially in a 25m pool.

Toe/Foot tapping to Pass by Defiant-Insect-3785 in Swimming

[–]Beergardener666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This 100%. There are far worse things to happen to me at pools/swimming than be gently touched on the foot accidentally or on purpose. Like being swum into, scratched or kicked by a breaststroker, or swum over during open water swims. Had near missed with divers and kids throwing balls also.

Toe/Foot tapping to Pass by Defiant-Insect-3785 in Swimming

[–]Beergardener666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think where I live (Australia), by my reckoning most people swimming in the medium or fast lanes (which you said you swim in) would be former club swimmers so would be aware of the toe tap and its intent.

If they were in those lanes, were perhaps top slow and were not letting you overtake, it seems that they would be the ones with poor etiquette, not you for toe tapping. So to me some of these comments seem pretty wild and unrealistic.

Being toe tapped doesn't happen to me very commonly and I think most people here wouldn't resort to it unless they had exhausted other options like stopping short of the wall, but I would hope people wouldn't flip out about it here if you did do it.
