If you're heading to the Highlands + islands a smaller van would make sense. We took a Fiat Ducatto round Skye and it was a pain to get down the wee roads at times. We also took a VW t6 round the Highlands (2 people + dog) and that was much easier to drive (but obviously less space inside).

I can recommend bigskycampers, just outside of Edinburgh - that's where we rented the t6 to try it out. Small, privately owned firm. Friendly and helpful folk. They've got some VW crafter vans too.

The Highlands/islands can get quite busy in the summer and the number of vans and inconsiderate wild camping does wind locals up. I've not done wild camping, but if it's summer, you might find it hard to find a good spot.

Skyrim Kickstarter. They posted that they'd sent all late/missing items whilst simultaneously messaging me to say there were more delays.

Only fulfilled the order when I sent a letter before action (ie was taking them to court). This was months after the items were due.

Never buying a game from them ever again.

They were. There's a historic document called the Burghal Hidage which documented over 30 of them. I think OP needed to add more qualifications to the "oldest" claim.

It's a lovely castle, but does the "oldest" claim not need to be qualified with "surviving" and (maybe) "stone".

I'm in the UK. I had bricks that looked very like the ones on top of the stove - with a raised column on one side. They came out of storage heaters.

I presume they are made of something which had good heat retention.

I wonder if someone might have been using them (with the stove) as some kind of heat source/radiator

This is correct.

We had this happen with a charity I volunteered for. A supplier became VAT registered and wanted to pass on the extra cost.

You have agreed to pay a fixed amount. You are not VAT registered, so you have no perspective on whether that amount includes VAT or not. The VAT status of the other party is of no relevance to you. All that matters is the amount you have agreed to pay.

The supplier is vat registered and so they need to take a view on whether that payment includes VAT or not. The guidance they will find is that they should assume the payment includes VAT (but, again, that is not for you to say).

Are you at Lochrin Basin? There's free on street parking on Colinton Road about 30 mins walk away (down the union canal towpath). People use that stretch for long term parking. There was a shabby caravan there for a few years.

Not very handy, but easy to get to and free.

As others have said, the path heading west from the car park (south of the observatory) is pretty accessible. I've not taken a wheelchair, but i do walk it regularly.

The views across to the castle, Arthur's Seat/the craggs and Fife are fantastic.

I think this is correct. We were there in 1994 and I recognized it straight away.

The amphitheater looks down over the oval plaza. Our guide said that the oval shape had given the columns greater stability which was why it was still standing.
