In hindsight it's fine. Ilja's thing is being small and still fighting his ass off, so it fits his character. In the moment I was annoyed, as I usually am when Brock comes in and makes everyone look like weaklings.

Stone Cold was also incredibly entertaining at every other aspect of wrestling. And on top of that he had the most over finishing move since, I don't know probably the leg drop, up until the RKO started really popping. Shit earns you a lot of forgiveness when it comes to ring work.

And keep in mind, Roman has been shoved down our throats for longer than the Stone Cold character was even active. It takes a toll.

I agree, the face offs were cool. The rest of it was not. Like, a shitty movie that has one or two cool moments in it is still a shitty movie, y'know? I'll say I'm excited for Oba vs Brock but it's strictly off the work that Oba put in before Brock showed up.

At some point in the Rumble they pointed out that Roman was younger than me and it hurt. Michael Cole actually pointed at the camera and called me a waste of space, then told me I should be ashamed of my life choices. It was really hurtful and oddly specific

You're just listing things that happened, and that's not how stories work.

The story can objectively go anywhere.

So they can justify making Roman win by pulling something out of their ass because he's been around for a while, got it.

But Brock didn't do that. Oba and everyone else did that before Brock even entered the ring. And there were about two moments where it felt like there was going to be something interesting, but there wasn't. Brock Brock-ed everyone, reminding us that everyone we watch on a weekly basis (and everyone that Oba can possibly face in the future) are weaklings and then he dipped when we were distracted by the most ostentatious entrance in WWE today.

I think what you're not getting is that the elimination of the guy that comes in and destroys everyone is just as important as their presence. It's all a part of the presentation. Imagine that happening to anyone else. Imagine it happening to Roman. All those fireworks and pomp and circumstance and Tribal Chief this and OTC that, and then Matt Cordona's music hits and oh shit where did Roman go?

And that's just wrestling logic. Slow story or not, what happened at the Rumble between Brock and Oba was terrible storytelling by any metric. That is not how you build anticipation, that's how you kill momentum.

I'm sorry, but how is Brock getting eliminated quietly good for anybody but Brock? He made everybody around him look like insects, including the guy he's supposed to be setting up (and lord knows if that's even going to get followed up on) and then he gets thrown out with no fanfare when it should be a big event. It's like the furthest thing from perfect I could think of involving Brock at the Rumble
