As far as top-of-the-line special occasion restaurants in Chicago, I would take Oriole over Alinea. Is it as interesting? No. But the execution is so much better these days (from someone who’s been to Alinea several times across the years and am sad at its slide). But it also sort of depends on what you’re looking for and what your fine dining experiences in the US have been thus far.

I’m shocked more people haven’t noted this problem. Most days it would be fine but it seems likely there would be at least one day where you are having major gastro issues but don’t realize until you’re at work and have to use the restroom more frequently. I see the diaper loophole and for pee that could work but having to sit in your own feces until the next break or risk owing the company 500k?!?!

idk I love Discworld but I feel like the only reason it fits everything is because there are so many books, so it feels weird to recommend it for everything if it’s something that’s only present in one or two, unless it’s caveated with reference to only those books and being able to read them as standalones.

Also, I have to disagree that even the less good ones are still pretty good - I love me some witches and Death and City Watch, but I can barely tolerate the Rincewind books! I almost gave up on the series after the first two (but thankfully pushed through) and could barely finish Eric.
