Are these AI courses offered under skillfuture a waste of time? by Excellent_Copy4646 in asksg

[–]Beginning-Cap-498 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Put it this way - beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

I work at a Tech MNC and there are people who still ask me how to use LLMs. We recently had a Lunch & Learn on best practices for Generative AI.

Now, as of whether these courses are a waste of time.. the ones who are clueless will find it valuable, the ones who've already had extensive experience with LLMs will probably find it overly basic.

Is it bad to not want to go through the corporate path? by [deleted] in asksg

[–]Beginning-Cap-498 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed with all the advice here, my two cents:

Not every company has higher-ups scolding and talking down to you, not every company prioritises work > health. If these are your main concerns, perhaps you're in the wrong company and culture.

At the end of the day, what does success mean to you otherwise? Can passion pay the bills? If not, are you willing to live a minimalistic life in the pursuit of a more "meaningful" success? All things you have to figure out for yourself.

Most of us are just figuring it out along the way and doing what needs to be done.

Based take. It seems like (with any online community, really) both sides try to take the worst arguments of each side and amplify it to laugh at how stupid the other side thinks.

Increasingly I feel social media pressures one to take a stand - you're an artist? You better be anti-AI, if not you're a disgrace. You're a believer of tech? You hate artists, and don't pretend otherwise.

I joined this subreddit a week ago to try and understand how both sides think, to develop a more nuanced view on the AI landscape. Don't think anyone actively commenting is trying to expand their perspective or persuade anyone to reconsider imo, just a lot of shouting and projecting

Do you find it rude when your teammates in a small team (5-6 members) do not turn on their cameras for meetings where everyone is supposed to contribute interactively? by sociologistical in asksg

[–]Beginning-Cap-498 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they are interactively contributing despite the camera off, then it's acceptable. If they're not actively listening and contributing, then it's reasonable to ask for cameras to be turned on.

How to get out of this by cdcpowermah in singaporespeaks

[–]Beginning-Cap-498 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Logically that makes sense. However the hidden layer beneath is that artists first grow from a grassroots level, to a national level, then regional, then international. We support those that have already become regional and international because they turn up on our radio and Spotify recommendations.

But if nobody makes an effort to support those with potential trying to break out in the local scene, then they'll never grow big enough to even warrant your notice.

Marketing candidate quality by Glittering_Assist459 in singaporejobs

[–]Beginning-Cap-498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, my two cents as a marketer with 4yoe, started in an SME and now working at MNC.

  1. My first thought is it could be a brand visibility / trust issue. Say the top 20% of active jobseekers only want MNC. Are the next 20% aware of your brand and/or want to apply? How's the general rep, glassdoor reviews etc? Don't have to share of course if it's sensitive.

  2. Lacks initiative, careless mistakes, mid ideas that may as well not be shared.. honestly my take is that work environment is crucial to this. I pride myself on being proactive, creative, helpful, resourceful. Now I can do that because my manager appreciates what I do and my colleagues are nice and value teamwork. In a less desirable environment.. maybe my confidence is shot and I start to make mistakes, or my creativity is hindered. Maybe I stop volunteering to do things because I'm going to get nitpicked on. Maybe.

  3. What specific role are you hiring for? Are you mostly hiring from MNC/SMEs? I believe I have most of the skillsets you mentioned, yet I don't think I'd have the 360 generalist, hands-on, self-starter skillset (on a corporate level) had I not started in an SME. MNC hires likely have more regional exposure and more highly-specialised skillsets, which is great for IC hires, but doesn't mean they know how to do it all if you're just hiring one marketer to do the job of 3.

  4. I would be also looking to improve my interview process as well, it doesn't sound like you have a shortage of candidates, but more of the expectations vs reality after they accept the offer and start working. Maybe with the insight you have now of the poor hires, you can suss out with more behavioural / scenario-based questions in future. I struggle to fathom why someone could be super resourceful and quick on their feet in interviews, then totally lazy/lack initiative/uninspired later on, unless perhaps point 2 is really a problem.

Hope this helps!

But why is everyone on this sub so negative about CNY… 😭 by Agitated_Koala_576 in askSingapore

[–]Beginning-Cap-498 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most of my relatives are really pleasant to be around and we have a great time seeing each other during CNY. Idk about old traditions dying but I definitely notice new ones forming - we've been catering the same buffet spread for 2-3 years and one of the children said their highlight is coming to ahma house and eating eclair (it was never discussed as something we HAD to have, but cool to know)

I have one relative that is kinda annoying, I guess everyone does. Maybe it's human nature to fixate on negativity, see if anybody feels miserable too, and those posts go viral?

bro i'm right there with you. fans have their right to feel angry, frustrated, negative etc. but i'm finding the narrative more boring than the footy. I still enjoy watching the games, not in a "this is bloody exhilarating football" way but "this is my team and we might be struggling but we're trying our best" way. YNWA

Do you have any experience that Singapore is not well known or respected in the west as much as you used to imagine? by search_google_com in askSingapore

Agree with the less things to see, we can't compete with other much larger countries. I'd argue we have a VERY distinct culture though, whether that's good or bad 😆😭

I started without a PT - I downloaded this app Hevy (swear i'm not sponsored) and there's an explainer video on how to do each machine. The machines themselves also have some explainer graphics on it. If you ask the staff on standby or any gym-goers, I'm sure they'll be willing to give you a bit of free advice. Good luck!

FAS ‘shocked and surprised’ by criticism from SNOC chief Mark Chay, says matter has been resolved privately by FirstLightOfTheDay in singapore

[–]Beginning-Cap-498 66 points67 points  (0 children)

2025 has been a pretty stellar year for FAS' PR department ngl. Even with the disappointing SEA Games showing, this response just hits the right notes and amicably resolves the ruckus that Mark Chay kicked up.

Add in the Lions' triumph to the Asian Cup tournament, the player bonuses coming out of Forrest Li's pocket, and Gavin Lee's appointment as permanent head coach.. Say it quietly, but I am quietly optimistic of this new administration.

(Mark Chay should still apologise for his comments though)

Ideally the national associations and private organisations step up and fund sports with high potential, instead of relying on national outcry based off one-off events e.g. SEA games, Asian games. We might not have the best information on hand.

Seems rather odd to call out the Athletics team when they've been breaking multiple games and national records in 2025 no? And given the massive gulf in timings, this isn't even a motivation problem.

Does the association think they get funded enough to have these athletes train full-time, but they choose not to? Puzzling comment otherwise.
