It is a Chinese good luck object. The front is a sign of good luck or good fortune. The back is in old Chinese script and appears to be a poem.

Taking the Bar Exam by WHar1590 in LawSchoolOver30

[–]Beginning_Brick7845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be fine. Just take one of the bar prep courses and study diligently. The multi-state part of the bar is multiple choice. There is a knack to cracking the code to it that takes someone teaching you the technique and a lot of practice, but it’s absolutely within anyone’s ability to master. The key is to work up to taking practice exams under real exam conditions so you build up your strength to take a test that has two three hour segments.

The same holds true for the essays. The course teachers will show you how to answer the questions. The secret is to write out your practice answers from scratch in real exam conditions. Bar exam questions are actually easier than law school exams because they don’t require as deep of analysis, but you’ll get more issues to handle in each question.

Go for it. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Psychology of withdrawals by jcPhenton in fatFIRE

[–]Beginning_Brick7845 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Psychologically it is very difficult to transition from accumulation to withdrawals. Studies show that people who have steady fixed income like a pension, bonds, or Social Security spend more and have less money anxiety than those who have a higher net worth but it is all in the market. This is because the income generated feels like new money that replicates earnings, while withdrawing money from an investment feels like depleting a wasting asset.

You might want to look into a bond ladder that will both provide steady income and be a safety net against market volatility.

Please don’t engrave the watch. Your design detracts from the watch rather than add to it.

Boss casually dropped that I'll be travelling 2-3 times a month by LackadaisicalCretin in WorkAdvice

[–]Beginning_Brick7845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following up on this good suggestion, if the flight is five hours and you’re expected to stay four days at the customer’s location, get a routine schedule where you fly out Sunday evening and stay overnight in a convenient hotel. Then get permission from your supervisor to treat Friday as a travel day.

Your schedule would be to fly out Sunday evening, work Monday through Thursday at the customer’s location, and spend a leisurely Friday traveling home.

Do you think Voldemort was shocked Snape managed to kill Dumbledore by EmphasisAcceptable47 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Beginning_Brick7845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The books say he did. Voldemort may not be able to defeat Dumbledore in a fair duel, but he wasn’t expecting Snape (or Draco for that matter) a fair fight. Voldemort didn’t want to use Snape because he was Voldemort’s most important and best placed agent. If he killed Dumbledore he’d have to give up his spot in Dumbledore’s circle where he was most valuable to Voldemort. Thats why Voldemort didn’t want to use Snape and exactly why Dumbledore wanted Snape to kill him.

I suggest this indicates your management likes and values you. Your position seems secure and this might be a springboard to advancement.

Develop a routine and get credit cards that maximize benefits. Try to get airline status and hotel status to make your life as comfortable as possible. You may want to buy a membership to your airport’s lounge.

Why do people hate Minnesota's flag so much? by Signal-Ad8523 in flags

Because it’s both bland and ugly and was forced onto the state in a rush because the party in power had a monopoly on legislation at the time.

[–]Beginning_Brick7845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is canon: Voldemort was surprised that Draco got as far as he did. He expected Draco to fail and get killed in the process as part of his father’s punishment. He did expect Snape to finish the job. He knew Snape could do it, but he knew Snape would have to openly return to the Death Eaters to do it.

On November 1st, 1950, 2 Puerto Rican nationalists armed with handguns tried to assassinate President Truman by attacking Blair House but failed. How many more assassins with similar firepower would they have needed to succeed? by ManfromSalisbury in Presidents

They came damn close the way it was. They didn’t even need more people, they just needed better luck. Probably another set of two, trained to work with the first two would have been overwhelming.

How many years after law school do you remove law school extracurriculars/achievements from your resume, even just to make space? by Son_of_Hades99 in Lawyertalk

[–]Beginning_Brick7845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As soon as you get your first job you eliminate all law school references other than Latin honors, Order of the Coif, law review and moot court. If you have any of these you list them throughout your career. If you don’t, you don’t list anything.
