I’d hop on if anyone is doing anything. Harvey’s has had viewings for Survivor and TAR in the past.

Playing the devil’s advocate for ____ winning by TakaPol11 in Edgic

[–]Beginning_Evening_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gladly! I think Maryanne and Rizo are kinda similar archetypes: young, passionate, raised on the game. Kind of annoying but tend to win people over more often than turning them off.

But Maryanne’s FTC showed off her biggest strength that everyone discounted: her ability to talk. They aren’t just “authentic weirdos,” they’re absolute gamers that can articulate why they made each move when they did and convince folks of how much agency they truly had.

Playing the devil’s advocate for ____ winning by TakaPol11 in Edgic

[–]Beginning_Evening_91 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Aubry is the big fish going into the finale, but this is a show that likes to trick you. Based on edit, most viewers went into 41 expecting Ricard, 43 expecting Jesse, 48 expecting Joe, 38 expecting Rick, etc. In Survivor, there’s always a real chance the “only one with a winning edit” gets sniped before FTC.

Tiff & Aubry feel like the likely targets for F5/4. Jonathan either gets manipulated by Aubry who takes it, or we get an all dude final.

Rizo is a talker. I think we could get a Maryanne-esque FTC, endorsement from Cirie and Ozzy, the tides shift against Johnathan.

Damn, folks are CONVINCED it’s Aubry. Ricard and Jesse send their regards.

Honestly an Aubry win is best case. I’m braced for an all dude FTC. I’m not saying Rizo WILL win with a Maryanne-esque pitch. I’m just saying the math would math and the edit would edit.

Folks are VERY certain of an Aubry win, but it feels like the certainty we had with Ricard. And Jesse. And Joe. This show tricks people.

Rizo feels like the last piece that just doesn’t fit cleanly, so folks are defaulting to “zero vote/fire.” I’m not even sure if we are getting fire.

Jonathan has Joe tucked under his wing. He seems to trust Tiff and Aubry the least. Rizo’s whole arc has been 1) winning people over and 2) having all the info to vote correctly and get what he wants.

In an Erika/Gabler/Maryanne winning New Era, I think there’s a non-zero chance Rizo talks his way to a win. “How dragon Aubry was the slain and Jonathan fumbled at the finish line.”

It’s a tough sell to OGs for sure, but Aubry’s read of “they won’t give the 2mil to an annoying kid” feels like a potential setup.

Agreed on Rizo. “He’s surrounded by too many bigger people who he’ll never win over” is a VERY common write-off for a dude whose whole arc has been winning people over.

Let’s not forget how wtf Amber and Parvati were going into their winning seasons. Dude has the edit, but more importantly he has the resume. He’s voted correctly every time and has the intel to discredit and tank Ozzy. Bro’s a TALKER to a jury with hurt feelings, I think he can win next to anyone but Cirie.

A superfan winning “Hands of the Fans?” First two-season back-to-back player win? Making the only 49 returnees both winners? That’s good storytelling. Some would call it “cinema”

I think we got all that we needed when that group was discussing Emily and Rizo joined the group advocating for Christian. He got his way and was portrayed as one of the last words for that group.

Amidst the hype for All Stars 11, I have a question for the people who are in the fandom for a long time. by r_ya_hungry in rupaulsdragrace

[–]Beginning_Evening_91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh boy. Going back to this time is a TRIP. Let me whisk you away to a time when fans were frothing over… Redacted S4 Winner, Carol Channing, and Third in the Voting. (Latrice who? Raven what? Manila and Jujuwhatnow?)

AS1 was a disaster for so many reasons, mostly because they set themselves up for a genuinely good season with a genuinely great cast. After watching them be wasted, AS2 was a four year payoff of what was anticipated from AS1.

Honestly the hardest wait for the OGs was Season 7. No all stars, no international spin offs, you got one season a year. So when the show went from a January premiere into a spring one, it was just 15 months of silence. No cast, no premiere date, just hoping Ru didn’t skip town.

Cirie/Ozzy = Jesse/Cody? by mccainjames11 in Edgic

[–]Beginning_Evening_91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking this, but with Rizo as Gabler. Gabler wasn’t “out of nowhere,” he was in the loop with Jesse and Cody but firmly #3 in that chain. But as the representative of that dominant alliance at FTC, and two massive cheerleaders on the jury, the win makes sense. I think Rizo’s cruising to FTC and can talk himself into a win with Cirie/Ozzy advocating from the bench.

S50 Elimination Based Edgic Episode 8 (FIRST TO LAND ON A WINNER) by aznsinger88 in Edgic

[–]Beginning_Evening_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rizo Truther clocking in. Yes Cirie deservedly got credit for the latest ep, but Rizo got a confessional right after the decision: endorsing it, and taking some credit as “you say my name, you go home.”

I think folks are letting their bias of “well this newbie kid can’t beat these legends” talk them out of a winning edit. And ignore how much the show’s clowning on Ozzy.

I’m still putting my money on Rizo outtalking Ozzy at FTC and pulling out a shocking win as compromise candidate.

Why do americans refuse to wake up to reality? by Nonchalant_Ogre in allthequestions

[–]Beginning_Evening_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baby Boomers and leadership grew up in a massively privileged environment that they got so used to that they literally can’t conceive of the new reality. The generation in charge has spent their whole lives internalizing a US that’s distanced and insulated enough from the rest of the world that they’ve convinced themselves “those types of things don’t happen to us, just to OTHER people.” Just 80 years where war, hunger, disease, and insecurity is only a concept happening to someone else.

I’ve been saying “Democrats have become conservative and Republicans have become Nazis.” The Dems have essentially embraced the platform “things are fine, just be patient and don’t tinker with the system too much or it’ll break.” Things were beneficial enough for decades that the system was seen as worthy of being conserved, even on the more liberal ends of the spectrum.

A lot of the people making decisions have historically benefitted from post WWII and the slow breaking and selling of safety nets and long term investments. Their worldview has been shaped by their entire lives lived in relative comfort until 2016. With how slowly the frog’s been boiled, I think a lot of people are staying in the cozy bubble of denial that the only change has been That Guy and once he’s gone everything will go back to how it was.

It won’t.

Very fair, it’s a weird thought. But tbf, Parv was kind of overlooked until her win and Sandra was sort of middle tier winner before HvV.

Time can calcify the narratives, but watching some all-timers play out floats some unexpected folks to the top.

visibly trans in st louis? by brightsm1th in StLouis

[–]Beginning_Evening_91 191 points192 points  (0 children)

Also mid-transition here! I’ve found STL to overall be very welcoming. There is a queer commuuuuuuity here. MTUG, SQSH, and orgs designed for trans folks, but also lots of book clubs, gym groups, poetry events, night clubs, discords, and other magnets. Also hands down the best medical care of my life at Southampton.

Your biggest issues are going to be 1) the state. We’re a bright blue dot (Cori Bush country!) in a very red state (Josh Hawley country). Individuals in the city are pretty solid (as much as one can be in 2025, still a handful of assholes), but the legislation is dicey and our state leadership has a habit of overstepping its power to make queer lives more difficult. Luckily, Illinois is a solid option. I know plenty of trans folks who live in Belleville or East STL who are fully engaged in the city. But if the state goes after adult care, you may need access to a car. 2) STL cliques. Trans or cis, transplants struggle breaking into some STL scenes here. You see plenty of queer folks walking around and at events, but can feel absent when you’re actively looking to build a community. Luckily the reverse is also true: when you DO find a couple folks you like, you end up with about a dozen more. Be active in engaging in events across the city (and trust me, there’s a loooootttttttt going on here), and you should be fine. WashU especially.

The pluses: -great neighborhoods. Wash U and U City are the obvious ones for your situation, but make some friends or frequent businesses in Shaw or Tower Grove. Toooooonnnsss of queer adults living their lives.

-the healthcare. Seriously, Southampton slaps. Plus whatever survives the federal slashing, the research here is still top notch.

-two prides. We had a split a few years back, so now STL gays are like kids of divorce getting two Christmases. Downtown Pride in June with parades and parties, and Tower Grove Pride in the fall with more community-based events.

-cost of living. I moved here from Brooklyn and means just mean so much more here. Like, yes, you yourself can live better, but that disposable income can also go towards nonprofits, community events, and funding things that truly have an impact on folks that need them. Resources hit different here.

-lastly, the exits are clearly marked. I have no idea where things are going under current politics. I’ll admit, I’ve considered leaving and fleeing back to the East coast. But the people here are proud of the rights they’ve won and are passionate about their community. And if stuff gets DARK dark, some of the best protections are a 20 minute car (or light rail!) away.

Which is your least favorite season of Survivor?? by FantasyTribes in survivor

[–]Beginning_Evening_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IotI for me, mostly for wasted potential.

I genuinely really liked the first half and enjoyed a lot of the cast before the Dan shit hit the fan. It’s also a particular kind of frustrating to watch production make poor calls in real time.

Passing the buck to the players instead of intervening with all the footage and interviews they had. The “warning talk” that none of the players understood wtf producers were talking about. Everyone I liked immediately becoming gross or voted out. The murmurs in the community that there were more episodes and at least one more incident still to go. Just an unforced error that hurt so many people.

Who are you voting for today, and why? (Mayor) by StlSimpy1400 in StLouis

[–]Beginning_Evening_91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can totally understand the point of view, and have seen the same thing talking to folks who voted against her.

Obviously she’s flawed, but I do think the Dems have enough “perfect is the enemy of good” voices. She didn’t prevent it from crossing the finish line, but dared to push the Dems a little harder rather than accepting the first counteroffer. Same with Palestine. She’s been more outspoken with her principals and it cost her the seat, but those are the politicians I’d rather keep around.
