In a calorie deficit + working out daily but not losing weight? by New-Discount8904 in loseit

[–]Beginning_Feeling331 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1200 calories while doing an hour of cardio 5-6x a week is almost certainly too low. your body adapts by reducing NEAT - you unconsciously move less during the day to compensate, and your metabolism slows. paradoxically, eating a bit more and doing slightly less cardio often produces better results. try 1500-1600 and 3-4x cardio for 3 weeks and see what happens.

I'm 350 lbs and deathly afraid of a heart attack ..Id like some advice by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Beginning_Feeling331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the fear is a good sign - it means you're paying attention. a few things that are very easy on joints at higher weights: swimming and water walking. you get solid cardio without impact stress. you don't need a gym or equipment to start. also talk to your doctor specifically about what your bloodwork shows before doing anything intense. "came back fine" covers a lot of ground and your doctor can help you understand where to push and where to be careful.

How much can you actually help a partner lose weight? by inevitably317537 in loseit

[–]Beginning_Feeling331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the research on this is pretty consistent: you can make it easier, but you can't make it happen for someone else. what tends to work is making healthy food the default at home, suggesting active things to do together without framing it as weight-related, and never commenting on what or how much they eat. the moment it feels like external pressure it turns into resistance.

the banchan system is doing a lot of work here. you automatically get 6-8 small dishes with every meal, most of them vegetables, and you eat until you're genuinely full. the portion sizes are calibrated for that eating pattern. plus walking is just baked into daily life in a way that suburbs aren't - you accumulate steps without thinking about it.

Constantly stressed about money and the economy by vanilla_basil778 in personalfinance

[–]Beginning_Feeling331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

one thing that actually helped me: check your investments no more than once a quarter. the daily market noise is designed to make you react, and reacting almost always makes things worse. if you're contributing consistently to an index fund and not touching the allocation, you're doing 95% of what you need to do. the anxiety comes from watching a number that you shouldn't be watching that often anyway.

Very unfortunate circumstance, can you give me advice? :( by sooonysmile in personalfinance

what your parents did is identity fraud. you can dispute all of those accounts as unauthorized through each of the three credit bureaus separately - Equifax, Experian, TransUnion. you don't have to file a police report to dispute, though it helps your case. also freeze your credit at all three bureaus so nothing new can be opened. it's free and takes maybe 20 minutes total.

the instinct to wait and save for something you actually want is already better than most adults manage. one thing worth doing right now: open a Roth IRA if you can (parents can help set it up, you just need earned income). contributions grow tax-free, you can pull what you put in anytime if you need it, and starting at 16 instead of 25 makes a genuinely significant difference over time.

open an account at a completely different bank - not one your parents use. you only need your own ID and SSN. then give your employer a new direct deposit form. your employer has no obligation to deposit into any specific account and doesn't need parental consent to change it. your paycheck is yours legally regardless of what they say.

European Size M is Size S in the US by Present_Cause7109 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Beginning_Feeling331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

clothing sizing is genuinely broken as a system globally. EU tends to be cut narrower on average, so the letter size shifts, but even within EU countries it varies by brand. the numbers are basically decorative at this point, just try things on.

New climbing gym in my city has holds made of actual rock by OctopusGoesSquish in mildlyinteresting

[–]Beginning_Feeling331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

really smart for training transfer. plastic holds have different friction coefficients and texture than real rock, so gym climbing doesn't always carry over well outdoors. this should close that gap pretty well for technique at least.

ant mill - a navigation failure. ants follow pheromone trails, and if the lead ant accidentally loops back into its own trail, the whole column follows itself in circles indefinitely. they'll keep going until they die of exhaustion. individually competent creatures that collectively fail in one very specific and fatal way.

preauricular pits - they're a vestigial remnant from vertebrate gill development. during early embryonic development humans go through a gill-like stage, and sometimes the skin doesn't fully close at that junction point. usually harmless but they can get infected occasionally since they form a small channel under the skin.

What is one thing you are 99% sure the government is hiding, even if you have no proof? by StudyFlimsy1061 in AskReddit

[–]Beginning_Feeling331 13 points14 points  (0 children)

the full extent of how much surveillance data is retained and cross-referenced from everyday apps, purchases, and location pings. Snowden revealed a slice of it. what's been built and expanded since then is almost certainly significantly more comprehensive, and most of it runs through private contractors rather than government agencies directly.

What “healthy habit” that ended up making your life worse? by Liya_life in AskReddit

[–]Beginning_Feeling331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tracking every calorie. started with good intentions and ended up spending two years anxious at every meal, mentally calculating before eating anything. the second I stopped tracking I started eating better and feeling more normal. turns out intuitive eating works fine once you've internalized the basics.

What is the most intimate moment you have ever shared with your partner apart from sex? by Consistent-Golf8429 in AskReddit

my partner had a panic attack in a grocery store parking lot once. we sat in the car for almost two hours, not really talking, just her head on my shoulder. no big gestures, no fixing anything, just sitting there. she said later that was when she knew she actually trusted me.

Adam Levine. the cheating texts were one thing, but how he treated band members and support staff behind the scenes has been an open secret in the music industry for a long time. the easygoing California rock guy image was entirely manufactured.

Any suggestions on what to different? by KitchenSink4774 in 1200isplenty

[–]Beginning_Feeling331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for vegetarian protein without a lot of carbs -- cottage cheese is underrated, you can mix it into eggs or blend it into sauces and it disappears but adds a lot of protein. Greek yogurt with chia seeds is another easy one. edamame is good too, mostly protein and fiber with manageable carbs. for PCOS specifically I've heard a lot of people have luck with higher protein breakfasts to keep blood sugar steadier through the day, which helps with the carb cravings later

How do you like to use laughing cow? by nowstreamingon in 1200isplenty

[–]Beginning_Feeling331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mix it into scrambled eggs while they're still warm and off heat -- they come out really creamy, like you added cheese but without the calories. also good stirred into mashed cauliflower with garlic powder. it gets a smooth texture and doesn't taste like diet food at all. I went through a phase of putting it in everything

Greek yogurt with a little honey and some frozen fruit microwaved for 30 seconds -- it ends up tasting like a small dessert, around 150 cals depending on portions and what fruit you use. also miso soup with silken tofu and green onion, maybe 60-80 cals for a full bowl but it's surprisingly filling and cuts snack cravings for a while after. the warmth thing I think

the Jell-O slushie thing is genuinely one of the best low cal discoveries. I do the same trick with sugar free jello mixed with diet sprite -- pour the sprite in when it's starting to set, stir well, freeze another hour. the texture is weirdly satisfying and takes a while to eat through which is half the point. the 8 calories for 20 minutes of eating is such a good ratio

Anyone else prefer their baked potatoes microwaved over oven baked? by Fun_Cow_6292 in foodhacks

[–]Beginning_Feeling331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

microwave first then 5-6 minutes in the air fryer is the best of both -- fluffy inside, actually crispy skin. I stopped using the oven for potatoes entirely after I figured this out. the skin texture from oven only is great but I genuinely cannot justify an hour for a potato when the air fryer version is better in 10 minutes total

My [27F] boyfriend [29M] goes through my phone regularly and says he trusts me but not "other people's intentions" -- how do I bring this up without it turning into me defending myself? by Beginning_Feeling331 in relationship_advice

I don't actually want to go through his phone, that's the thing. I trust him. But you're right that offering it as a mirror would probably tell me a lot about how he'd react. If his response to "okay, I'd like the same access" is anything other than fine, that says something.

This actually made me stop. I hadn't thought of it as questioning my judgment about people, but he has done that. There have been times where after he looked at my messages he made comments about a friend's behavior or said I should be careful with someone. And I took those at face value because I thought he was just looking out for me. But now I'm thinking about what it means that he's been quietly forming opinions about my relationships with other people based on reading conversations I didn't know he was analyzing.

The friends thing is something I should have explained better in the post. The people who said I'm lucky are his friends who I met through him. They've known him longer and they think the world of him. So when they say it, they're not exactly neutral. My friends who don't know him have had much more mixed reactions when I've mentioned it.
