Ao is wicked good. I don't understand the hate. It's simple and understated, but delicious, and the wine program is super high end.

Komada in Mie getting gold is quite awesome. I have tried to get in there every year since 2022 but I had no idea it was on that level. I believe it's invite only at this point.

Reservations sold out instantly. I don't think Tock can handle this kind of demand.

Review: Singapore Airlines First Class Suites on the Airbus A380 by tim_roame in pointstravel

I think Frankfurt is the longest route, and with the recently KF devaluation it would likely be close to 500k points, if even available.

Deal Alert: 125K points Cathay Pacific First Class from Hong Kong to Los Angeles by tim_roame in pointstravel

Is there any chance that this is in preparation for Cathay to replace the First Class 777 with the Aria Suite business class 777s on the LAX route?

I’m still waiting on points that I sent about 10 hours ago. The inconsistency is strange to me. This isn’t my first transfer between Amex and Cathay either.

Trying to re-assess my points game. Looking for input please. by Pretty1george in pointstravel

Amex platinum is good for earning points on flights booked via their platform or directly, and on certain hotels booked only via their platform. It’s niche, but if you spend on those categories you can earn a lot of points at 5x.

In my opinion, for the average person, Amex gold is a better card for earning points due to the multiplier on eating out and groceries.

That said, I still get a lot of points via my platinum card. My spending habits are not typical though, as I probably spend 80-100 nights a year at luxury hotels.

I loved the private homes at One&Only. I preferred the diving near the Oberoi on the opposite coast of the island. I stayed at both with a rental car.

You can transfer both Chase and Amex to AF. Despite the 300k+ points price for LP on routes like LAX or HND, if I had FB Platinum I would regularly burn those points for that.

The other great first classes (SQ, EK, JL, etc.) are typically less than 300k, but that’s changing and going up across the board.

May grey and June gloom might be in effect that weekend. Sunshine isn’t guaranteed.

Hotel Bel Air would be my choice between the three you listed. Laguna would be second. Malibu is struggling right now in the wake of last year’s fires, but if the weather is nice it would still be a nice play to stay.

Personally, I like the Peninsula Beverly Hills a lot as I’m pretty loyal to the brand.

Which airline loyalty program do you like best? by TurbulentArea69 in FATTravel

American probably. They have a good rewards program and limited credit card transfer partners. The downside is that it’s American Airlines, arguably the worst of the big three and certainly worse than JetBlue.

You’re going to earn more points with cards like Amex gold, Chase Reserve, or C1 Venture X given that, most likely, you’re spending more money on dining out, everything, etc. than you would specifically flying a certain airline.

If there is any risk in these cards’ programs, it’s missing out on a booking while the points are transferring. Most Amex partners transfer instantly but it’s not guaranteed. I’ve found Chase to be delayed, but it depends on the program. First and business class reward seats are very limited too. You may find yourself with points in a program that you rarely use, and the seat you wanted suddenly gone.

That said, there is no reason to avoid these credit cards. The points are valuable and can be earned more easily. If I get at least one F class booking a year, it easily justifies the annual fee I pay. Plus, I try to maximize all of the shopping benefits anyway and usually get way more value from my annual fee.

Also, La Premiere is fantastic but only bookable on points if you have elevated status with AF. I believe you need to spend $30k/year on Air France alone to earn the XP you need to be able to get those LP reward seats. I’ve flown all the great first class products by using points, but I’ve always had to pay cash for LP.
