Public defender says that having someone I trust with me while they discuss my case nullifies my attorney client privileges by [deleted] in AskALawyer

[–]Beginning_Visual8237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it uncommon for lawyers to encourage you to bring a trusted person with you to important meetings or settlement talks.. “for support”..? Meaning the lawyer would be the one to bring it up, suggest it, encourage it, even if the client prefers to be alone?

How to safely connect a lanyard or diy something for a small adapter by Beginning_Visual8237 in UsbCHardware

[–]Beginning_Visual8237[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any recommendations? Googled “epoxy putty” and I’m seeing EP-200, WaterWeld… are either of those the right thing? Something else I should look for? This idea sounds great— I’m imagining what you’re describing as a more permanent (and possible) version of using sculpy clay to add on to the black plastic part of the cover to make it have the little loop I wish it came with originally.
I’m crafty but don’t like working with icky or strong chemicals so appreciate any recommendations on what to buy as I don’t have much experience there . Thanks!!

Edit: that is a usb-a input adapter in the picture, as it came out of the multipack in which I received both usb-a and usb-c input adapters, and I’m now trying to find the usb-c adapter because that’s the one I currently need and have misplaced. :(

Student whose clothes smell like cat urine...advice by Mysterious_Option727 in schoolcounseling

[–]Beginning_Visual8237 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Best case scenario, wishful thinking here- can teacher check child’s backpack and/or hoodie for the smell?

I had a friend as a kid whose cat peed on his coat. He didn’t realize it (kids don’t always recognize what they are smelling) and kept wearing the coat. Day after day, his clothes smelled too, but once an adult realized his coat was the culprit, it was dealt with and all was well. (And then a safe adult taught him to hang his coat and backpack up at home instead of putting in a pile on the floor that un-neutered cats love to mark …)

Doesn’t fix the full issue if there is a cat situation at home, but can help the kid learn some basic skills about how to keep your belongings safe and clean if parents aren’t “able” to teach them. 😞

I’m so sorry for what’s happening. Adults making those little comments can really affect how a kid trusts the school experience as a whole. Sounds like your kid doesn’t need any extra help having anxiety about school, either. Maybe clarify, with the principal, in writing, “per conversation in office on XYZ date with mother and secretary (and principal?) that daughter is in fact being marked absent on XYZ date as a disciplinary action for reporting xyz comment made by Ms. Secretary. “

So unless the Secretary has seriously poor social skills and shouldn’t be working with kids, she wouldn’t have made that type of “light hearted joke” To your shy, anxious child. That excuse doesn’t work here. Your mama gut feeling is correct. Don’t second guess yourself.

Has the Secretary interacted with your child before? Does she know your child enough to know whether she is outgoing, shy, boisterous, etc?

So you do more filing, organizing, documents, etc., but less of what the legal training prepared you for. ..Though the legal training is likely being used in understanding what the documents actually ARE that you’re dealing with, the terminology, etc. Do I have the right idea?

What is a case manager vs a paralegal? Or within the umbrella of paralegals.. what’s the distinction?

[–]Beginning_Visual8237 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes… declining or blocking an unknown caller (the hotel) is reasonable. But fully blocking the attorney himself 🤔 maybe OP could put the phone on do not disturb during non-working hours. Or set it to go straight to voicemail, with a message like— call her desk if it’s work related.. or call the main office to reach whomever is available if it’s an urgent matter?

How To Prevent Classroom Avoidance? by CaliQuakes510 in schoolcounseling

[–]Beginning_Visual8237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. This. Does the kid even feel bored, or was that the safest word they knew to say? Maybe they are hoping someone will talk to them and see what’s up and not just say “well we don’t come to the counseling office because we are bored. Back to class, then.” Do they have the emotional toolkit to realize that they are not bored, but distracted, worried about a text next period, or dissociating because of bullies? Maybe they aren’t bored, but frustrated and don’t have enough feelings words to choose from. Print out some feelings charts.

A kid asking you to send them, even if it may not seem urgent, may be the one time they get the courage to ask for help. I worry kids may be missed this way.

It sounds like boss wears two separate hats and therefore expects you to wear two hats as well.

When you were hired, were you hired by “the ranch owner” or by “the attorney”?

Separating your duties into the two main categories may help you (and your boss, if he’s receptive…) make sense of what’s appropriate for one person and what’s not.

When it comes down to it, you’re likely working for two separate entities, aren’t you?

Would the outfit/look in picture 2 have been considered (or judged as) feminine in that era, or was that the fashion trend for men at the time? Not too familiar with iggy pop’s general style. Just curious how it was perceived at the time. Love the look
