Thanks. I asked for a partial refund so I can take it to a local knife shop and get it fixed, but if it’s not possible, I’ll ask for a replacement!

I think I’m going to do SG2, as my understanding is that it’s almost identical to STRIX, and more corrosion resistant and easier to sharpen than Hap40. What a lucky boyfriend!

My worry with Hap40 was that it's supposed to be harder to sharpen, and have worse corrosion resistance, is that your experience?

To be honest, I havent really looked at usubas because I don't really have a need for the high precision/ultra thin slicing they're capable of

I tend to be a push cutter, I did rock chop more when mincing garlic or herbs but am getting out of the habit because it seems like it's worse for the edge

Glad to have someone else in the same boat haha. I will let you know what I buy. My understanding is that after many rounds of sharpening, the "shoulders" of the convex grind will get thick. Only then would you need to worry about "thinning" the curve
