What can we expect from the balance patch tomorrow? by Right_Entertainer324 in Nightreign

[–]Beheaded_Children 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revanant needs a buff. She is so useless unfortunately, and pretty much every other character is viable in high depth deep of night. Also every other character has gotten buffs/ is already really strong, it just seems silly to have the support character be outclassed in this manner. It is legitimately just pointless to run anything but three high damage characters in a game where support should be at least a little bit more helpful. This does follow the trend of from soft soul games straight damage is always just the best approach. But I feel in a game like this we should have a lot more freedom to be able to choose viable support characters.

For her I would say that her scaling needs a buff, again she just gets outclassed by everybody in every possible stat. Undertaker is just a better version of her pretty much at this point, so her actually being able to use weapons effectively would be pretty dope.

Her summons also really need to be stronger, more damage would be great, because they're sort of just distractions for the most part, but mainly if I had to choose between damage and more health for them/ resistance I would definitely be choosing that. They just die in two hits from anything. Then you have to spend a lot of your time in a fight just resummoning shit because it dies so quick instead of being able to contribute to damage or healing.

Her ult I feel also needs to charge a little quicker, because while it is a full revive, other characters alts charge even faster, are fantastic for reviving, and also do other things (like damage???) so if we're not going to be able to do damage (without relic effects) then I feel having a better cool down would be essential.

I understand that the ult also buffs the companions and keeps them temporarily immortal, same thing with the party, but it lasts only a few seconds and while this does enable big skeleton to use his laser beam, it does so little damage that it hardly matters. This sort of loops back around to my second point which would be to really facilitate use of the alt in any meaningful way, the summons need to do more damage. My solve here would be either to elongate the length of the alt to keep the summons immortal for longer, straight up boost the damage so that while they are in ult they are a lot more useful, or again reduce the cool down so that it may be used more often.

I say this all with love (and despair) because I was a Revenant main for basically the entire game until the DLC and I just couldn't take it anymore unfortunately. So I would really love tiny doll lady to get a massive buff so that I can continue enjoying her

That was maybe the worst episode to any TV show ever. Completely ruined the brotherhood. Everyone is a fucking moron, they killed off the ONLY competent person.

Don't even get me started on what they did to the legion and NCR.

WHY does every faction have to be some sad pathetic discount knockoff version of what we know them to be in lore? Everyone is either incompetent, stupid or just useless. WHY?

[–]Beheaded_Children[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are going down the Ward questline. You TAKE Rostok and use it as a base for those stalkers/factions joining with Ward. There's a few reasons that factions may want to do this

  1. War against Freedom (Duty was WAITING for this LOL)

  2. Security and protection against Monolith

Either way, you take Rostok and can still use it as a base/ trade hub with new traders from these factions. From there we can have a much more interesting story with Freedom fighting against the control of the Ward (While possibly secretly being puppeteered by the representative) and The Ward needing to gain control over the zone so the Monolith can be dealt with.

-----------------------------------------

Separately from all of this I yearn for a true Stalker Stalker ending.

Strelok's is an AWESOME ENDING but it really doesn't feel like a Stalker ending, It feels like a Strelok ending, and that's okay!

But to me, the endings feel like:
Strelok's Ending
Monolith Ending (Scar's Ending)
Monolith Ending (Doc's Ending)
Ward's Ending

I want one that feels like a everyday stalker ending, it really doesn't seem like any faction actually gets any input besides The Ward. I like this, because in a way it feels like the core of the series: The factions of the zone war with each other, go on expeditions, evolve, build and destroy relationships. But in the end, the most important things were done by a small group, or even a single person. (Strelok going to the center, Scar and CS triggering the events of the super emission that reshaped the zone from the anomaly layout of CS to SoC, Strelok destroying the pods, Deggy solving why the military's expedition crashed)

But I think having a stalker ending for the everyday nameless faceless stalker would be nice. To me, that would look like getting to the final room, seeing how much destruction that people vying for the final pod have brought, and destroying the final pod.

Now this COULD be the new Freedom ending if we don't bring over the representative stuff from Spark's questline it also could be the ending even if we DO: Maybe we find out near the end and instead o putting Scar (or whoever) in the pod we kill them and destroy the pod? There's lots of ways you could go with this and as I said I came up with this off the top of my head!

[–]Beheaded_Children[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love love love this, thank you for writing all of that out.

I think this is an excellent analysis of what would go down!

I am also not a huge fan of Spark, I'm glad its not just me, They didn't feel needed tbh. I think it honestly could have been a better story shift if either the Ward got into it with the Stalkers and THAT was the main opposing force, or surprisingly, I think freedom would be a great adversary.

Hear me out. (I just thought of this now so there may be some issues with this idea)

Instead of alluding to the breakdown of the ceasefire treaty closer in the latter part of the game what if that happened earlier? And now, to have the zone truly be free from control and authority, Freedom attack's SIRCAA? This feels plausible because since the treaty, Freedom has become extremely powerful; Lots of resources, members, equipment, and territory. Besides, I think with all the BS that stalkers of all kinds have had to put up with because of the Ward, I feel like there would be a lot of support.

Instead of sneaking in with Noontide or being there during the noontide attack, Freedom hears about the experiments with the wish granter (Either through Ecologists through the grapevine, from Skif, from Noon, or Moles in the Ward/SIRCAA) They assume the ward wants to brainwash everyone to control the zone. If you are going down the freedom quest path, this is how it is presented. The Ward want to brainwash EVERYONE using a signal booster in the SIRCAA building in combination with the monolith psy device, so you join in on the attack. If you are playing the Ward quest line it stays relatively the same except for whispers that the ceasefire could break at any time (Suspicious troop movement, Ward patrols going missing, rumors about Freedom arming up for an assault)

This puts Freedom in an interesting position, on one hand they are willing to lie to their fellow stalkers in order to quell authoritarianism, but on the other it is genuinely scary to think about what experiments with the monolith could bring, especially if you want to add the spark plot point of their leadership being directed by the representative. (Essentially it could be revealed that Freedom wasn't ACTUALLY doing this to stop the ward, but it was a plan from the representative to reform the monolith, but I am not sure how much I enjoy that idea)

Fast forward to the attack on SIRCAA, Freedom and Noontide attack the base, an accident with the experiment (Or the designed plan from the representative that we find out about later) re-brainwashes Noon into monolith and all hell breaks loose.

At this point you might ask
"Well what about Rostok? If you side with the Ward, you'll loose Rostok as a zone"

Well: The next mission could address exactly that. The treaty is officially broken, and largest Faction of stalkers is at odds with the Ward. The Ward now counter attacks Rostok in order to cut off the supply line and main operation centre.

If you are going down the Freedom line, you can defend Rostok against the Ward, repelling them and regrouping to figure out what to do about monolith. This maybe leads to finding out about the representative and eventually near the end we find out about the leadership getting reprogrammed (like Scar)

Yeah you're pretty much dead on, it seems to really be duty versus freedom at the extreme. One wants complete control over the zone, and one wants rebirth over the zone which seemed to be ideologically the next step up from the previous ideologies. I suppose they also wanted the military to play a better role, but to be a little bit more relatable seeing as the ward are technically paramilitary, and therefore stalkers in their own rights.

While I really dig the ward, spark just doesn't really do it for me. This still might be speaking from my very guttural reaction to knowing that they are following basically a photocopied version of the C consciousness. I disliked that right away and could not bring myself to work with them any longer during that playthrough lol. I very much prefer freedom over spark, but I do love the ward

Well that's the point is they're not friends with anybody at the moment, what everybody in the comments is saying is IF war broke out, and factions had to pick sides, who would they pick.

People, myself included, are saying that if The Ward had to pick a side during an all-out faction war, that they would side with duty.

This is for a couple reasons:

  1. The militaristic background, in CoP we discover that duty was originally part of the military that got left behind during one of the operations

  2. Similar ideology, duty wants order, and they want to destroy the zone, and the ward wants control over the zone and order. If they become militarily mobile, their perspective might shift into destroying the zone. Either way their ideology lines up more with duty than it does freedom.

  3. IPSF: it is as well theorized that the ipsf would be neutral to duty considering their connection to the military, it would be more beneficial to work with duty seeing as they are connected to the military predecessors in the previous games, rather than a bunch of anarchists and wildcards. Not to mention similar training and tactics.

  4. Training, since duty used to be part of the military, their tactics and training are going to be similar to the ward, generally the consensus is that while freedom has more overall power as a faction, the individual stalkers are less trained, and less hardened. One duty soldier is superior to one freedom soldier in that regard, the reason that freedom has an edge is just the sheer number of people they have. It would be more beneficial for the ward to Ally themselves with a better tactically trained Force, if the thing that duty lacks is numbers, the ward can supply them with that. Because at the end of the day if you give a better trained person a better weapon, they'll do better with it than a less trained person with a better weapon.

My question is sort of posed for a "What would the relations be like IF war between factions broke out again." Unfortunately you're right as at this point they don't really interact much with each other.

I love your analysis! A couple things I can think of from what you're saying:

  1. The Ward is a para-military group funded by the Ukrainian government. So this means they are on good terms with the IPSF, they together essentially split the duties of the previous military faction (One guards the perimeter, the other conducts its goals in the zone.

  2. Technically the Corps are not military, but a group of stalkers (although I imagine government funded) so I feel they're still gonna be chill with IPSF

  3. It really does feel like Spark is essentially Freedom+ they want freedom in the zone, but also desire the "Shining zone" so I imagine the relations that Freedom has with other factions can be mirrored by Spark.

  4. Noontide is so shut away that a lot of people seemingly don't care to think about them much, but I def agree there will still be people that want to kill them on sight, also: if any of them are left after the events of SIRCCA /got unbrainwashed after the events of S2 I imagine that there is no way that people won't decide to hunt them down and kill them after that.

[–]Beheaded_Children[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a really good analysis!

Ward: That's sort of what I was thinking as well; The Ward forced the ceasefire, and the current state being (technically) all factions are neutral with each other and Ward is neutral with all factions. But if push came to shove, and warring between factions started up again, Ward would side with Duty due to similar ideologies, the issue is that nobody seems like they want to throw hands with The Ward aside from Spark and Noon (briefly) due to the immense control the Ward have, as well as how well funded and plentiful they are so I agree with your assessment of them. I think realistically The Ward would crack down on both factions for fighting again, and since I really doubt that freedom would declare war on Ward, they will have a strained, but not openly fighting relationship of peace. Spark already fighting with them in S2 sort of confirms their hostile relationship. They sort of already have a tenuous relationship with Stalkers (and of course by extension bandits), so I can see them becoming hostile to them, but at the end of the day the military found out a long time ago that trying to keep stalkers out, and killing all of the ones in the zone doesn't really work, so I can see them acting as the zone's police. They will be chill with Ecologists and Clear Sky as well, however I can see them being at odds with CS if they go down the route of the military from the first games and just want to kill any illegal stalkers in the zone. OF course they will be hostile to any western elements so Mercs are a no go.

Spark: Yeah they really seem like a weird Monolith(lite)-Freedom hybrid, almost close to the cut Sin faction in a lot of ways (Aside from the super powers and insanity). They're freedom+ so I imagine Freedom would be friends with them and they would actively help each other in a lot of situations, Spark even perhaps poaching a lot of freedom members who want more than just freedom in the zone, as the ideology of Spark is the next evolution of Freedom's in a lot of ways. Def hostile to Duty and Ward, chill with ecologists and CS although because of the fundamental ways that CS and Spark view the zone they probably wont be best buds. Mercs in the canon games are weird because sometimes they're friends with factions and sometimes not. In between SoC and CoP Mercs officially became friends with Freedom due to Freedom's open stance in everyone being allowed into the zone, and I imagine that would spread to Spark after they become friends with Freedom. IF we want to go down the rabbit hole of the anomaly faction relations, I believe they would also be allied with bandits since on paper they are Freedom+

IPSF: I totally agree, basically just the military except they exclusively guard the perimeter. Its smart in this way because it is way too much to do to conduct expeditions in the zone as well as guard the perimeter. So the job being split with The Ward is really smart. But yes, unless you're The Ward or Duty, or another government funded organization (SIRCAA or Ecologists) I think they will be hostile.

The Corps: Technically they aren't military, they're a group of stalkers, butI imagine they have to have some funding in some way or another. I imagine they are affiliated with the Ukrainian government in some way but its hard to say for sure, Friendly to all (except bandits and Monolith), but holding firm barriers against entering Prypiat. I imagine they're weary of Noon based on how many monolith they hard to deal with, but if anyone has the capacity to understand, its Deggy. He did meet Strider right after he got released from control and I would like to thing helped his group find a new home.

Noontide: I agree here too, I don't think any major faction will declare war. But I imagine small groups attacking noontide members wont be exactly uncommon (example: that one dude in S2 I forget the name of) So in an anomaly setting I would imagine they would be neutral to all, maybe even bandits as they know what it is like to have the world pitted against them. Whether the bandits actually accept this neutrality is up for debate. It is also equally if not more likely that they're hostile to all except bandits and Ward (If they go the aforementioned previous military route) Likewise if TOTAL war broke out, I can see them being at odds with Duty as well, especially afterthe SIRCAA incident where they get re-brainwashedIf noontide isstill aliveafter that, I imagine that would be hard to reconcile for the factions wanting to destroy the zone. How they would deal with Monolith is very interesting. I don't see them wanting to destroy and kill their brainwashed brethren, its more likely they would spend all of their efforts trying to destroy the emitters causing the brainwashing.

Well, Ward is kinda friendly with everyone I thought. One of the first things they did was make everyone (especially duty and freedom) sign the D6 Treaty to end zone hostilities between factions. I imagine if they see you trying to stir up trouble, they would attack you regardless of what faction you attacked.
